Guided City Walk & Food Tasting Tour

by Reykjavik Sightseeing Duration 6h Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per adult Price is AU$200

Get to know the sights and tastes of Reykjavik with a pair of experiences that introduce you to the best of Iceland's capital. This combination of a walk through the charming city centre and an evening of tasting great local food gives you a personal perspective on what makes the city unique.

The walking tour begins when you meet your guide at the towering church of Hallgrímskirkja, where you head up to the bell tower for a great view of Faxa Bay and the iconic multicoloured rooftops of the city around you. Next, head to the Einar Jónsson Art Museum to see the charming sculpture garden on the nearby grounds, and then take a stroll through the quaint district of Þingholt to visit the geese, ducks, and swans who frequent the City Pond.

At the nearby City Hall, you get a look at a topographical map that shows the whole of Iceland while your guide describes the history of mighty volcanoes that helped to form the island. You then get a look at the national parliament and the site that held some of the city's earliest Viking homesteads on your way to the Old Harbour and the grand Harpa Concert Hall. The tour's last stop is at the beautiful Sun Voyager sculpture that overlooks the bay, where you can admire the view before setting off on your own.

In the evening, meet up at a pub in the Old Harbour for an introduction to the food, beers, and culture that make for a great Icelandic dinner. Try out at least 6 different beers and ales, all paired with tapas-style selections of local dishes chosen just for the occasion, including wild lamb and fish that were caught fresh just off the nearby pier.

Throughout the dinner, your host shares stories about how Icelanders forged their own civilisation in the island's harsh environment. Come with whatever questions you have and get some honest advice about how best to enjoy your time in Iceland before the evening comes to an end.
