The city has bounced back after the Canterbury Earthquakes of 2010 and 2011 with innovative new attractions, as well as some old favourites. It is a hub of arts, culture and food and a gateway to the South Island and all that it has to offer. Here\u2019s my guide for how to spend 48 hours in The Garden City.<\/p>\n

Where to stay<\/h2>\n

There are plenty of options in Christchurch for where to rest your head, such as Hotel 115<\/a>, a contemporary boutique hotel located in the heart of the city. Get out on the water<\/h2>\n

Punting on the beautiful Avon River<\/a> is an iconic Christchurch attraction that is not to be missed. Summer or winter, glide along the tranquil river as a skilled punter in traditional Edwardian attire propels you slowly through the water. You\u2019ll have views of weeping willows, woodlands and the leafy banks of North Hagley Park and the Botanic Gardens, and you\u2019ll see why they call Christchurch The Garden City. 2 Cambridge Terrace, Christchurch Central, Christchurch 8013<\/em><\/p>\n

Find a bird\u2019s eye view<\/h2>\n

For some of the best photo opportunities in town, the Gondola<\/a> offers views of the city and the Canterbury Plains, towards the Southern Alps and dramatic hills of Banks Peninsula. If you would prefer to earn your vista, there are plenty of walking and mountain bike tracks near the Gondola, or opt to ride the Gondola up and mountain bike back down the hill. 10 Bridle Path Rd, Heathcote Valley, Christchurch 8022<\/em>

Shop up a storm<\/h2>\n

Located in the Woolston Tanneries is The Tannery<\/a>, a recently renovated shopping, dining and arts Emporium. The old industrial building from the 19th century has been converted into a home for more fifty boutique stores, dining spots and even a cinema, where old time charm meets modern attraction. 3 Garlands Rd, Woolston, Christchurch 8023 <\/em><\/p>\n

RE:START Container Park<\/h2>\n

The Re:START<\/a> Container mall was born from the need to breathe new life into the central city following the devastating earthquake in 2011. Created by the Christchurch Property and Building Owners group, it was built to encourage people to come back into the CBD. The Re:Start Container mall has more than 50 stores as well as markets, street performers and buskers. The colourful shipping container conversions are a lively spot in town where you will find both tourists and locals alike, enjoying lunch from one of the many food stalls and shopping from local vendors. 78\/92 Cashel St, Christchurch Central, Christchurch 8011<\/em><\/p>\n

Where to eat<\/h2>\n

Now, let\u2019s talk food. The city has a bunch of cool, quirky options as well as cheap eats and really great coffee. Pot Sticker Dumpling Bar<\/a> on Poplar Lane is the talk of the town. Serving up traditional dumplings as well as a Kiwi take on a dumpling, steamed Chocolate Pineapple Lumplings… a moreish combination of spiced pineapple with Whittaker’s Dark Chocolate made with a Kiwi staple, the iconic pineapple lump… a must try! 144 Lichfield St, Christchurch Central, Christchurch 8011<\/em><\/p>\n
