A few years ago, two of my good friends married in Melbourne and headed to Broome<\/a> for their honeymoon. Their tales of their trip alluded to an oasis of warmth, white sandy beaches, exciting experiences and particularly amazing sunsets.<\/p>\n

Well after 48 hours in this North West Australian town, I can say it didn\u2019t disappoint.<\/p>\n

There is a laid-back country town feel to Broome \u2013 wide roads, a relaxed sense of style, friendly locals and a definite holiday feeling. Even though the town only houses 14,000 residents, it has all the facilities of larger cities. There are numerous five star resorts that bring all the luxury you\u2019ll need for a romantic honeymoon in this coastal oasis.<\/p>\n

With honeymoons on my mind, I\u2019m letting you in on my five most romantic Broome experiences that are a must do!<\/p>\n

A Sunset Camel Ride with Broome Camel Safaris<\/h2>\n

If there is one thing on my Broome bucket list, it was a sunset camel ride! Broome Camel Tours were more than happy to oblige and off we set to the \u201cBlue Tent\u201d on our last afternoon in Broome. Broome\u2019s camel lady Alison runs this camel tour with her team \u2013 each of who is well versed in the personality of each camel and willing to oblige in sharing their stories.<\/p>\n

We got up close and friendly with the regal Aslan who happily carried us around for an hour as we watched the sights and sounds of Cable Beach. The wide expanse of sands, waves crashing and the peaceful rocking motion of the camels as the sun glided into the water combine to create a beautiful sense of calm.<\/p>\n

As the sun made its last appearance, the camels stood in a line as we said farewell to the rays of light. It\u2019s a must to bring your camera or pay for the professional photographs \u2013 they\u2019re magical and something to treasure.<\/p>\n

A Couples Massage at Bali Hai Day Spa<\/h2>\n

Mr. Polka and I stayed at Cable Beach\u2019s\u00a0Bali Hai Resort & Spa<\/a>, enjoying a deluxe suite. Each suite at Bali Hai has its own private entrance, self catering facilities (including a private barbeque and courtyard), an outdoor shower (called the \u201cMandi\u201d bathroom) and carved wood Balinese inspired d\u00e9cor.<\/p>\n

The resort itself is set in lush tropical gardens \u2013 frangipani trees, boabs, and croutons dot themselves around the resort. A saltwater pool, tour desk, day spa and licensed restaurant are also on site.<\/p>\n

On-site day spas are a luxurious treat aren\u2019t they? Our resort Bali Hai had one of the best in Broome, with treatments inspired by the Balinese culture and the magic of Broome.<\/p>\n

My lime and coconut ritual kicked off with cold towels and cool water in the open terrace of the spa before I was ushered into a treatment room with the lilting waves of the didgeridoo piped through the speakers. The soothing sounds were combined with a luxurious treatment of a coconut oil with citrus and sea salt scrub before a moisturising coconut and lime treatment.<\/p>\n

The open-air terrace, cold towels and tea that are offered pre and post treatment cap off an experience which will wipe away any trace of wedding stress. The spa even has a couples\u2019 treatment room that might be just the romantic, relaxing treat you\u2019re looking for.<\/p>\n

Bali Hai Resort & Spa is a mere fifteen minutes walk from Cable Beach and only a short bus or taxi ride from the Broome township. Most tours and fun things to do in Broome have a pickup option (which is especially handy when you\u2019re without car and fancying a cocktail or two) so it makes post-spa adventuring easy.<\/p>\n

A Day Trip to Willie Creek Pearl Farm<\/h2>\n

Can something educational be romantic? In this case yes! Mr. Polka and I were ready and waiting for our 8am pickup to the Willie Creek Pearl Farm. A bumpy ride 38km north of Broome later, we were nestled beside turquoise water learning everything there is to know about pearls from the lovely Emma.<\/p>\n

As Broome is the pearl capital, you\u2019re likely to want to leave with a few, so this tour is an essential part of making sure you know exactly what you\u2019re buying.<\/p>\n

Handmade damper for morning tea (made with Matsos mango beer!), a boat ride around the pearl farm (think more of that milky turquoise water, crocodile sightings and of course plenty of education about how a pearl is harvested) and a trip to the Willie Creek showroom counts for a great start to the day. The showroom is where the teaching comes into its own \u2013 take note of the buying and storing tips. It didn\u2019t hurt wearing a $30,000 pearl strand and pretending I could take it home either (spoiler alert: they made me give it back).

A Sunset Cruise On A Restored Pearl Lugger \u2013 The Intombi<\/h2>\n

A sunset cruise on Broome\u2019s Intombi was hands down our favourite and most romantic adventure in Broome. After being picked up from our resort by the lovely Amy, we were briefed with a short history of the magnificent Intombi. This 111-year-old pearl lugger has been loving restored by Amy and her husband Ryan. We arrived at Cable Beach and hopped aboard Ryan\u2019s little speedboat to the glorious Intombi, bobbing majestically in Broome\u2019s blue waters. Drinks flow freely on the boat (as well as the food! Cheese platters, fresh vegetables with delicious dips, antipasto \u2013 the list goes on!) and the team on board are amazing. If you\u2019re in the mood for a swim, they\u2019ll cast a net off the back of the boat, allowing you to float in the water.<\/p>\n

Nothing quite prepared me for the magic of watching the sun drop into the ocean \u2013 gin and tonic in one hand, cheese in the other and Mr. Polka beside me.<\/p>\n

A Beer At Matsos<\/h2>\n

Our first stop in Broome was Matsos. We, as slightly lost tourists asked our cab driver to take us to \u201csomewhere by the water\u201d. He suggested Matsos and we were greeted by tall palm trees, an expansive beer garden, a view of the brightest blue water and the reddest soil you ever did see.<\/p>\n

I love heading to the local favourite when I get to a new city. It\u2019s a good way to get a feel for things. Matsos is quintessentially Broome! Casual pub food is available in the beer garden or for something more substantial, there\u2019s Matsos Restaurant. A must try is their beer handle, which gives a shot of five of the most famous Matsos beers (including their mango flavor, although the chili beer is my favourite). For something softer, the Matsos ginger beer is one of the best ginger beers I\u2019ve tried. This iconic Broome watering hole should be a big \u2018must do\u2019 on your list.<\/p>\n

Broome\u2019s list of romantic adventures for a honeymoon trip doesn\u2019t stop with my five! Add shopping at Dampier Terrace – Broome\u2019s own pearl mecca (practically groaning with pearls from Kailis, Paspaley, Cygnet Bay and Willie Creek to name a few), the natural phenomenon, Staircase To The Moon and even the outdoor Sun Pictures movie theatre. To top it off, just a short flight away are the incredible Horizontal Falls.<\/p>\n

If there\u2019s one thing about this magical holiday destination that I learnt, it\u2019s that beauty, relaxation and adventures can co-exist quite wonderfully together in a place where I don\u2019t even need to produce my passport.<\/p>\n
