Expedia’s Market Associate Sam has all the tips on how to make the most out of a trip to stunning Samoa’s Upolu island.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Samoa<\/a> is a one of the most picturesque islands you\u2019ll ever visit \u2013 the beaches sparkle with turquoise water, the roads are lined with bright lush greenery and the locals stop to smile and wave as you drive by. And don\u2019t forget the rich local culture, which the Samoan people are very happy to share.<\/p>\n

Samoa is composed of two islands, Upolu and Savai\u2019i. Upolu is the most populated island where all the international flights land, but don\u2019t write it off! It has a lot to offer!<\/p>\n

Things to do<\/h2>\n

Upolu is almost completely surrounded by a coral reef, so the snorkeling, scuba diving and surfing spots are superb. With the waves break behind the outer reef, the majority of the beaches are perfect for swimming. The beaches to the north of the south coast are the best!<\/p>\n

Not far from these beautiful beaches is the To Sua Trench. Located in Lotofaga village, To Sua translates to \u2018big hole\u2019 and is the best swimming hole in Samoa. Tunnels link the trench to the ocean so you might bob up and down, but it\u2019s part of the fun. A long ladder and a rope have seen installed to ensure it is safe for everyone!<\/p>\n

Heading back towards Apia are the Sliding Rocks \u2013 venture down the steep stairs and navigating your way across the rocks before jumping into the fresh water. Those who dare can also \u2018slide\u2019 down a waterfall into the pool below. Beware it does hurt your bottom!<\/p>\n

The Samoan Cultural Village located in Apia is a free experience offered by the Samoan Tourism Authority and is not to be missed. You\u2019re given the opportunity to learn about the Samoan culture be visiting different stations including dancing, crafting, tattooing and cooking.<\/p>\n

Stay<\/h2>\n

If you are looking for an affordable getaway in Apia, The Samoan Outrigger<\/a> is the perfect place to base yourself. Set in a beautiful colonial house, the property has several accommodation options ranging from private rooms to outside fales to a backpackers wing. The garden is a great place to unwind after a day of exploring.<\/p>\n

Situated close to the airport, the Aggie Greys Lagoon Beach Resort and Spa<\/a> is a great spot with a resort feel \u2013 the pool and bar areas are a great place to relax with a cocktail to watch the sunset.<\/p>\n

If you want to spoil yourself, stay at Seabreeze Resort<\/a>, a small boutique resort nestled into the edge of the cliff on the South Coast near the Lalomanu village. The staff greet you with traditional singing and dancing, every room has a view and the infinity pool overlooks the resorts own private beach.

Eat<\/h2>\n

Sails Restaurant in Apia is situated right on the beach, overlooking the coral reef. The deck is a great spot for lunch or book a table on a Thursday night so you can watch a traditional Samoan show.<\/p>\n

Paddles Restaurant is managed by Giovanni Rossi who prides himself in great Italian food partnered with outstanding customer service. The food here rivals food from Italy!<\/p>\n

Caf\u00e9 Milani is also managed by Giovanni and is the perfect place to take a break after shopping in the markets in Apia. The air-conditioning is a welcome luxury, the food is fresh and the coffee out does expectations. If the choc chip banana muffins are available, get one!<\/p>\n
