Looking for a romantic getaway? If you don\u2019t want to blow your budget, but do want to blow your loved one away with something really special, swap your warm Winter woolies for sunhats and swimmers with a trip to Fiji.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t need to go all the way to the northern hemisphere to soak up a bit of sunshine and a whole lot of romance \u2013 Fiji is under four hours flight from Sydney and Brisbane, and under five hours from Melbourne, and is perfect for couples looking to get away from the rat race.<\/p>\n

Here are five ways for couples to take their romantic break up a notch:<\/p>\n

1. Beach Club Bliss<\/h2>\n

Set sail with South Sea Cruises for a trip out to the Malamala Beach Club<\/a> \u2013\u00a0a quick 25 minute trip and you\u2019re settling into the day beds and deck chairs on what is the world\u2019s first island beach club. Grab a few cocktails and a beachside cabana for a fly and flop afternoon on the beach, or head back up to the infinity pool for a dip and a bite to eat. The beach club\u2019s \u2018hands only\u2019 pies, tacos and sliders are great for a quick bite, or there\u2019s poke bows, salads, even lobster and melon salad if you want to go all out! The beach club is a big draw card for couples staying on the mainland, especially as it\u2019s an easy day trip, rather than the longer transfers required when staying on the outer island resorts.<\/p>\n

2. Hide away on a sand cay<\/h2>\n

There aren\u2019t too many places in the world where a couple can spend a few hours away from the world on their own sand cay. Resorts around Fiji offer couples the chance to enjoy a private picnic right on the sand. At the Royal Davui Island<\/a>, guests are whisked away on a small boat to a secluded tidal islet, with a picnic basket packed full of goodies. Resorts around the Mamanuca Islands, the Yasawa Islands and Pacific Harbour also offer picnics. If you are after some time away from the world, where you can reconnect, put a picnic on your to do list.<\/p>\n

3. Pedal time<\/h2>\n

Are you an active couple who need a bit of adventure? If long walks along the beach just don\u2019t cut it for you, put Ecotrax on your itinerary. These push bike carriages are mounted to an old sugar cane railway that winds 12km through rainforest, two villages, across rivers and along the coastline down to a beach. Stop for a swim and snorkel before hopping back on the bike. Don\u2019t worry, the vehicles are electric-assisted so you can choose to lighten the load at anytime. Grab a coconut and some fruit to keep your energy levels up! Located along the Coral Coast an hour drive from Nadi, this is a great active day out.<\/p>\n

4. See the legend<\/h2>\n

The Sawa-i-Lau Caves are not just spectacular, they are also a little slice of history. Legend has it, these dramatic limestone formations tucked into a small Yasawa island were the hiding spot for a young chief and his betrothed when her family wanted to stop the union. The bride stayed in the sacred caves until they could escape to another island to be wed. These days, many happy couples make the journey into the caves, climbing stairs down into the outer cavern, a giant natural swimming hole with piercing shafts of light illuminating the limestone formations all around. Adventurous swimmers can journey down to the inner cave, but it\u2019s not for the faint hearted.<\/p>\n

5. Underwater adventures<\/h2>\n

Fiji is famous for many things \u2013 crystal clear water, white sandy beaches, superb snorkeling, top notch hotels. Then there\u2019s the diving. World renowned as a diving hot spot, Fiji is a great place to dip your toe into the world of diving. Sign up for introductory lessons with your special someone \u2013 there\u2019s nothing like learning a new skill to bring couples together. PADI dive operators run dive centres all over Fiji, including a lot of the hotels. Many first timers start out at the Mamanuca Islands, which have dive sites for all skill levels. You might start out in the hotel swimming pool, but you\u2019ll soon be out in the ocean. Pacific Harbour, Suncoast, Taveuni and the Yasawa Islands are also popular spots.<\/p>\n
