Depression, social isolation, anxiety and poor self esteem.<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s the solution? One option is to switch off! Go cold turkey with an off-the grid, digital detox. Yes, it\u2019s not easy to resist the temptation to check your phone but at these off-the-grid hotels, you might as well leave your electronics at home.<\/p>\n

Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa<\/h2>\n

Tucked below a dramatic escarpment, on the edge of Wollemi National Park, there\u2019s no phone reception at\u00a0Wolgan Valley<\/a>. You\u2019re left to distract yourself with the beauty of the Blue Mountains, an award-winning spa and Heritage Suites almost too cosy to consider leaving. Almost as soon as you turn off the main road and start the half hour drive into the valley you can say goodbye to reception, but the resort does has free wifi if you\u2019re desperate to stay in touch.<\/p>\n

Petit St Vincent<\/h2>\n

When you\u2019ve got 115 acres of tropical woodlands, 360 degrees of private island and two miles of sandy beach , do you really need to digitally connect? We hope not, because at Petit St Vincent<\/a>\u00a0in the Caribbean there\u2019s no TV, phones or Internet connections.<\/p>\n

Forget about calling reception, you\u2019ll be left alone in your beach cottage to enjoy the tranquility of paradise, unless you raise the flag. The resort uses flag signals – raise the red flag to be left alone, hoist the yellow flag and a butler in a buggy will zip over, and sort out almost any request: food, massage, drinks. Hoist the red flag and you won\u2019t be disturbed.<\/p>\n

This St Lucia resort discourages the use of technology – you definitely won’t find a TV in your bedroom and cable is a dirty word – but they don’t sacrifice on anything else at\u00a0Anse Chastanet<\/a>. Taking eco-luxury to the next level, the resort’s beautiful villas are tucked into the hillsides, hidden from the world by lush rainforest. There’s 600 acres of rainforest to explore by bike or on a hike but just as spectacular is the Anse Chastanet Reef on your doorstep.<\/p>\n

Go hardcore and give up coffee, alcohol and your phone for a few hours or a whole week at the award winning\u00a0The Golden Door Health Retreat<\/a>\u00a0in the Hunter Valley. Located in NSW’s gourmet food and wine region, people have cracked under the pressure and smuggled in contraband candy but that\u2019s ok. At the end of the day you\u2019ll get out what you put in and if you\u2019re booked in for a full day of massages, your body is going to feel better.<\/p>\n

Little Palm Island Resort and Spa<\/h2>\n

No kids and no mobile phones is a policy that\u2019s strictly enforced at this bite-sized boutique resort on\u00a0Little Palm Island<\/a>\u00a0in the Florida Keys. You will get wifi in the resort\u2019s Great Room and you can use your phone in the privacy of your bure but it\u2019s hard to ignore the plethora of signs in the common areas \u2013 yes, even the beach. The \u201cIsland Customs\u201d are designed to help everyone detox from the digital. Instead, spend your time swimming, snorkeling or check out a Sandbar session \u2013 up close and personal live music.<\/p>\n
