There\u2019s something to be said for Sydney\u2019s suburbs. Travellers tend to gravitate towards the big ticket items, checking in to high rise hotels in Sydney<\/a> CBD, Circular Quay or Bondi Beach, but they\u2019re missing out. These days the suburbs between the beach and city are where all the action is taking place. For decades, Potts Point right on the cusp of the CBD, has been home to award winning restaurants, serious small bars, some of the best city views, and now a boutique hotel that\u2019s raising the bar for inner city stays.<\/p>\n

Spicers Potts Point<\/a> spans three beautifully restored heritage terraces \u2013\u00a0the houses stand out like gleaming pearls on a black dress, the detailed metal lace work on the balconies and front fence add a delicate glamour that gives the sense this is a grand old dame brought back to life. Set back on leafy Victoria Street, the hotel is amongst fine company, surrounded by top notch eateries like date night restaurant The Butler, and culinary cool kid Ms Gs.

The hotel fits in with the crowd \u2013\u00a0a $20 million facelift has transformed these terraces into a space that is the epitome of understated luxury design. Light and bright, as soon as you walk through the entranceway you\u2019re greeted by some of Australia\u2019s most iconic artists. A John Olsen print hangs on the wall, alongside one of Martine Emdur\u2019s otherworldly underwater oil paintings, one of many that are displayed throughout the property. In each instance the art is given plenty of space, hung on large, white walls that let the blues, greens and greys of Emdur\u2019s works set the tone for the space.<\/p>\n

A long, polished concrete bench doubles as reception and bar, where complementary cocktails and canap\u00e9s are served daily between 6-7pm. It\u2019s a clever use of space, as is the large atrium over the breakfast room. Pot plants have been discreetly bolted up the walls so you feel as if you\u2019re taking breakfast in a garden.<\/p>\n

There are just 20 rooms, but unlike other boutique properties, none of the rooms are small or feel squeezed in. Decked out in muted creams, navy and grey, with touches of gold and natural textures, the rooms are on trend with international hotel design. They\u2019re understated luxury to a tee \u2013\u00a0with marble fireplaces, large windows, armchairs and deep free standing tubs all designed to make guests feel like they\u2019re at a home away from home. Someone\u2019s very chic, very cool home \u2013\u00a0there\u2019s record players and vinyl records in the suites,\u00a0along with a complimentary snack selection of local organic nuts, cookies and teas. It\u2019s tempting to settle in all day.<\/p>\n

The hotel has thought of everything,\u00a0from makeup wipes to clothes pegs. The staff are a group of very professional yet extremely friendly women who seem genuinely to want to make sure you have a good time. And that\u2019s what makes this Spicers hotel so special. You feel at once at home, but also aware this is a very special treat.<\/p>\n
