Live and Learn
Pictures are accurate, lovely views of the ocean surrounding mountainside. Cockroach discovered in closet upon arrival. What doesn't show is the kitchen cabinets are VERY old & in need of upgrade. Felt like old camp cabinets. Due to black debris in silverware we cleaned everything before using, also bought disenfectant wipes. The bathroom is VERY old & in need of updating. Caulking around tub/shower has black mildew sealed underneath. Cracked caulking around entire vanity area & wobbly toilet. Freaked to find Spider & small bugs in wrapping of last toilet paper, located in floor storage! Louvers in the bathroom did not function & in need of deep cleaning. Sliding door was wobbly & did not close or seal well (loud), during several tropical stormy nights! Louvers in kitchen (in need of deep cleaning) & entrance door functioned but no screen so flies were a challenge when we did try to eat in. With no A/C. or curtains (to shade/privacy), vents, slider & door need to be open. Fan in room was VERY helpful but this open concept exposes you to the neighbors' conversations, noises and smells (fish & pot on many occasions). Exterior; upon arrival the exterior made us question our decision to choose this property as several of neighboring apartment doors we had to pass were extremely dilapidated, along with only having 1-2 cars parked with us on top floor (room for approx 20) and caution tape strung along our entire side of lot (later learned it was there for the building renovations). Throughout our two week stay we were inconvenienced in many ways due to building renovations; such as noise, twice AM water was turned off, twice instructed by management to close doors & windows due to "hazardouss chemical odors", had to use stairs (wife has handicap), due to walkway being blocked off with caution tape for repairs. Definitely a "Hot Spot" for locals enjoying the park/beach/surfing next to the property; playing VERY loud music, loud voices/cheering & setting off fireworks past midnight, 3 times per/wk. You can't escape the noise; no A/C means no closing doors/ vents. Left us even more exhausted (on top of jet lag & early AM travel to events across the island) We wouldn't choose to stay here again.

Makaha Shores
We enjoyed the location as there is a beach right there. Was surprised that there was no curtains or blinds on the east wall.As it is pretty well all glass the Morning sun beamed into the room. This reduced the possibility of a sleep in and the heat built up quite quickly in the non air conditioned room.We used a bed sheet and a bed spread to block out the sun as best we could. There where a few items that could be added to the rooms kitchen department ex. Carrot peeler, strainer, serving bowls, can opener, electric hot water kettle. There wasn't a toaster in the room so we purchased one and left it there. There was some toilet paper and paper towel in the room. We left the same amount there when we left. The screens were all very dusty and there wasn't a screen on the man door. I purchased some tie straps and attached the screen to the louvers as best I could. It did seem to reduce the flying insects in the room. The screen in the bathroom fell out onto the vanity and sink area one night (was very windy out) I blocked it back up with a piece of wood as there wasn't sufficient retainers to hold it.There is a vacuum cleaner in the room so I cleaned the sliding door screens with that. I also cleaned the east windows because they were very dirty. The silicone around the tub should be replaced as it is showing black stains and just doesn't look clean. The lanai furniture is as shown in the brochure. Some upgraded comfortable furniture would be a great up grade as the view from this room is very nice. All in all we did enjoy our stay in this area and would have no problem going back to the area.
