Good location, bad water
The location was great, very close to the national park. The beds were comfortable and the interior was well decorated. And the price was very competitive. But we weren’t notified until the day of arrival that the water wasn’t potable and we needed to bring our own; no water filter was made available. Still, that wasn’t unmanageable once we went to the local convenience store for bottled water. But the water wasn’t just “not potable” - it came out of the taps a yellow-brown color even after running it for several minutes. Yellow as in the toilet constantly appeared unflushed. The property manager told us this was normal and “part of living in Hawaii” and “no one else has ever complained,” which seemed like an inadequate reaction to musty yellow water that wasn’t even clearly safe for bathing or dishwashing. The “kitchen” was more like a very small kitchenette - no stove or oven, and the hot plate and toaster oven provided were both very weak so cooking anything took a very long time.
