Soak up the atmosphere as you stroll along this oceanfront strip, the heart of Virginia Beach’s dining and entertainment scene.

The Virginia Beach Boardwalk stretches for 3 miles (5 kilometers) along Virginia Beach. Lined with bars, restaurants and hotels, this concrete esplanade features an adjacent bike path for cyclists and skaters. Enjoy a meal at a charming restaurant overlooking the ocean, watch buskers perform and inspect the sculptures and monuments along the boardwalk.

Originally stretching for just five blocks, the boardwalk was first built in 1888 as a wooden-planked promenade. Today, the concrete boardwalk is bordered by lovely white Colonial-style street lamps. Sit back and admire the views from one of the numerous benches lining the path. Street entertainers provide entertainment almost every day, while live music is performed on four oceanfront stages every night during the summer.

Take advantage of the Discov-QR Boardwalk Walking Tour, a free interactive walking tour covering some of the boardwalk’s highlights. Scan the QR codes on featured attractions to watch informative videos.

At 14th Street, look for the popular Virginia Beach Pier, open from April to October. Pay the fee to fish on this traditional pier or simply walk to the end to enjoy ocean views. Take the kids across the street to the Atlantic Fun Park. This small but enjoyable park features a variety of rides.

Take a photo with the famous King Neptune statue located at the gateway to Neptune Festival Park. Standing 34 feet (10 meters) tall, this imposing bronze statue also features depictions of dolphins, fish, a lobster and an octopus.

Discover the region’s maritime heritage at the Old Coast Guard Station. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this early 20th-century building houses a collection of more than 1,800 artifacts and 1,000 photographs related to Coast Guard services, World War II and other aspects of the area’s coastal history.

The Virginia Beach Boardwalk is located in the center of Virginia Beach’s resort area, stretching 40 blocks from Rudee Inlet to 40th Street. Expect the atmosphere to be liveliest on weekends during the summer. Don’t miss this icon of Virginia Beach.
