Dishonest host
We've rented homes from VRBO many times and, until now, we've always had great experiences. Unfortunately, Victoria was dishonest and unprofessional. The house itself is consistent with the description. It's a nice house in the middle of the island. There were some minor aspects of the rental that were a bit unprofessional but nothing substantial, e.g., Victoria didn't respond to an email message for five days, she provided some inaccurate information about check-in and the WiFi password, etc. Sadly, we had a terrible interaction with Victoria at the end of our stay and given her untrustworthiness, we would advise others to stay away from this property. A little over an hour before our check-out time, both the cleaners and the next set of renters arrived at the house thinking the check-out time was an hour earlier than it was. We chatted a bit with the next renters who were from New York and former colleagues of the owner. Together we called Victoria to resolve the issue of the correct check-out time. Victoria said we had the wrong check-out time and insisted we vacate the house immediately. We sent her a copy of our rental agreement indicating the check-out time as well as the listing on VRBO indicating the check-out time (and we also found the same house listed by Victoria on another site with the same listed check-out time). Rather than admit her mistake about the check-out time and take ownership, Victoria became defensive and accusatory. Perhaps she was embarrassed by her error that was causing problems for the cleaners who were on a tight schedule, for the next set of renters who she told could arrive early, and for us as we tried to wrangle our small children out of the house as quickly as possible, all of whom were a bit frustrated by the situation Victoria had caused. Rather than apologize, Victoria doubled-down that the mistake was not hers but it was the VRBO site's problem and ours. She became increasingly aggressive and hostile, saying "we would pay for this." Later she charged our credit card without our consent an additional several hundred dollars. When we contacted her to ask her about the charge, she said it was for "unspecified damage." We caused no damage and found this to be outrageous. We had to contact VRBO to remove the fraudulent charge. This was an awful end to our vacation because of the dishonest host. Live and learn.
