Tucked in the south west of New South Wales, our region is spectacular in natural beauty and diversity.
Tumut is approximately 410 kilometres south-west of Sydney, 525 kilometres north-east of Melbourne and 180 km from Canberra via the Hume Highway.

The main access to the town is via Gundagai (34 km) with roads going through both Gocup and Brungle.

The region enjoys four distinct seasons, each with its own charm - the richness of colour in Autumn, the playgrounds of the snowfields in Winter, the bright blossoms in Springtime, and the spectacular tracts of water and aquatic recreational activities in Summer.

The Tumut Region has natural wonders you can explore all year round with tremendous diversity ranging from huge inland lakes, clean streams, and gently sloped pastures to vast pine forests, peaked mountains, the enormous Snowy Mountains Scheme, and the many attractions of the northern end of the sensational Kosciuszko National Park.

Summer streams are cool, and clean. Rivers and dams provide fishers with plenty of opportunities for Trout and native fish. Swimming, canoeing or rafting on the lakes or water skiing, windsurfing, sailing and recreational boating are extremely popular here.

The whole family can enjoy the network of marked walking tracks that bring mountain streams, high peaks and fabulous views within easy reach.

Close by are features like the magnificent Buddong Falls, Yarrangobilly Caves in Kosciuszko National Park, State Forests and the horticulture industry where you can pick your own fruit. You can also retrace the steps of the European explorers along the Hume and Hovell Walking Track. More challenging tracks are a plenty too!

The area is also famous for the legacy of the goldrush days of the last century where you can discover pioneer-era huts, with Adelong offering some of the best preserved ruins of former goldworkings in the State.

Winter brings new enjoyment in the snow for the entire family. Selwyn Snowfields offer fabulous skiing only an hour's drive from Tumut, and half an hour from Talbingo providing tobogganing, downhill Skiing.

5/5 Excellent

The building is just great. The size of the bedrooms, the large showers, the outdoor space etc but for me it’s the final touches and added extras that make it. The good bbq outside, the coffee pod machine, the kids games, fluffy towels, quality products. The location is perfect. I emailed Wendy prior to our arrival and she replied very promptly. I met her on arrival and she was very welcoming. I really wished I’d booked an extra night or two (I did check online but unfortunately it was booked, otherwise I would have extended my stay for sure!)

Must be the best accommodation in town
A beautifully renovated home in a super location. A minutes walk to Bila park and the Tumut river or the main street shops and restaurants, but still so quiet and peaceful. The house and garden was immaculately presented and very very clean even the BBQ sparkled! As the gateway to the snowy mountains there is heaps to do in and around Tumut. Wendy and Peter are wonderful hosts, we (2 adults 2 teenagers) had a great week, in a classy home. 5 stars.

Marvellous Monarch
My family , 61 years to 4 years old had a terrific time in the Tumut region , using the Monarch as our base. The house is beautifully presented with modern facilities blending with the original charm. Pubs , cafes and shops are within a short walking distance. The river walk at the end of the street was perfect for walking off the meals in town. Thoroughly recommend staying at Monarch.

Wonderful house to explore the area
Perfect home away from home. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed, including great toys and books for the kids. So well situated in town and Wendy was so helpful with tips on things to do and the neighbouring towns. We would have loved more time there so look forward to coming back.

Tumut revisited
Very good. The only problems were the front door latch and the lack of a mirror in the third bedroom
