First the positives. The hotel is traditional and rather charming with family connections clear including grandad sitting supervising in his chosen chair!
The reception staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The location in the town is superb and the views are - oh my!
The top floor restaurant is a building site undergoing refurbishment. This is not mentioned on the website and really disappointing. Hence, no evening meals available (although no shortage of places to eat in Taormina!). No coffee to be had during the day and none in the rooms.
Breakfast is currently being served in two converted fourth floor bedrooms. Although these have the wonderful views, organisation is pretty chaotic and you may or may not get what you ordered and in strange order.
The beach club is great but there is a fee for the shuttle bus of 6 euros - not as per the website nor the notice in the lift which both say it is free. However it is mentioned on the very small print in the email which follows booking so there is no escape.
The decor is a bit tired. We are told the whole hotel is due a refurbishment next month, so it may well be worth looking at again next year, but the inaccuracy through hotels.com and the hotel's own website is worrying.
