Was a bit rundown from former grandeur. Could have down with the room heater on for an hour before arrival; dining room at breakfast was Baltic. Pleasant staff.

For a cheaper property, I really enjoyed this place. The room was spacious. The staff were very friendly and polite. As a stopover for me on the NC500, it was perfect and I enjoyed my two nights here.

The manager and staff, combined with the character of the hotel were the best thing about the property. The manager and staff were friendly and helpful and made our stay special. The food is good and provides great value with full size portions and breakfast was included in our package. The food was tasty too. Our room was large with a four poster bed. Definite character. We’d stay again if in Tain.

The Royal Hotel was okay and probably good value for the price of stay. The staff were welcoming and helpful. I do feel however that it is in need of investment and modernisation to live up to its grand title

Great stop off & not overpriced
Welcoming host, lovely old hotel Only stayed 1 night and it was good for the money. Comfortable bed, good bathroom Excellent breakfast spread, never seen such a good range of cereals and fruit at breakfast I don’t have cooked but from what I could see everyone seemed happy with the cooked breakfast
