The Ely House in Northern Michigan

Take a step back in time at the historic Ely House - a 100 year old farmhouse on a quiet 200 acres.

The Ely house was the original postmaster boarding house in what was once the town of Ely. Of that town, only the Ely house remains.

From the front porch you can almost see the train that use to drive through and the horses still saddled out front. Railroad spikes and old coins are a common find here.

You will enjoy its convenient location between Colonial Michilimackinac and Harbor Springs.

Flowing through the middle of the farm is Cold Creek. It connects to the Maple River offering superb brown trout fishing.

Old Elm trees provide an ideal habitat for our abundant Bald Eagle population which can be spotted year round. And there's always lots of cows grazing in the pastures.

The Ely house has a flowing well with pristine artesian drinking or bathing water from every faucet.

The house is heated and cooled geothermally. Geothermal heat provides a radiant warmth in the winter and a crisp cool in the summer. You might also like keeping the windows open to have that sweet summer air sweeping through the house.

The public wooded trails by the house will keep you pleasantly occupied. Whether it be a morning walk, a bike trip down a country road, wild berry picking, or a slow day fishing on Ely Bridge Rd.

At the end of the day, a bonfire under the stars while listening to the sound of owls makes for lasting memories.

For those who want to be away from it all but still need to stay connected, we have high speed fiber internet for you.

Michigan Family trip
Wonderful trip with 8 of us ranging in age from 12 to 72. The Ely house was exactly what we needed with enough beds and bathrooms. The location allowed us to explore the area. We went to Mackinac Island one day and the next day we explored Petosky. Only regret is we did not have more time.

Ely House
We received a warm and friendly greeting from property owner, Jim. Nice surroundings (working farm). We were there for the wonders of northern Michigan and Ely House is right in the middle of it all.

We had a great time. The house was perfect for our family. Our host was very responsive. Made us feel so welcome. Lovely touches like fresh flowers and a delicious pie. Easy access to all we needed and quick drive to beach and Mackinaw.

Clean. Convenient. Comfy.
We stayed at Ely House over the holiday weekend to ski at Nub's Nob. The house was large enough to easily accommodate all 8 in our group. The house is only about 10-15 mins. from the ski resort. It was great to be in a house and not a condo where you hear your neighbors. The rooms were all well appointed, each with their own bathroom. The kitchen was well appointed and there were plenty of comfy couches for everyone to relax on after a day on the slopes! The check-in and check out process were super easy and the host was responsive and even dropped off a crockpot for us to use. The best part was that we were able to bring our dog. It was such a cold weekend we didn't get to enjoy the lovely porch or even a bonfire, but I imagine on warmer winter days and evenings these 2 features are a real treat. We all agreed this is where we will stay for our next ski weekend up north.

The Ely Farm is Excellent
Our stay at the Ely Farm was truly an enjoyable and relaxing stay in every way. The farm is very clean, well stocked, and organized. The rooms were very clean and inviting. The covered porch was perfect for afternoon naps and time visiting with family. A Very peaceful and serene property. The farm itself has a wonderful and welcoming feel. Overall, this is a great place to relax and unwind. The property manager is an excellent host. Great with communication and making guests feel welcome. Would definitely stay again. Thank you for a wonderful and relaxing stay. Look forward to staying again!

A good place for all seasons.
The place is nice but it is summer, so there were lots of flies and mosquitoes. I bet the place is also beautiful in the winter.

Seclusion and relaxation at The Ely House
Our party of 6 had a great week-long stay at The Ely House. There was plenty of space and privacy for all of us, and we were pleasantly surprised that each bedroom had a private bathroom (and TV). Except for the occasional cars driving by, the house feels very secluded, and set back from the rode so the kids could run around safely and fly their kites. I enjoyed reading and feeling the breeze on the wrap-around porch, and we took advantage of the fire pit to roast marshmallows. Seeing a family of deer in the front yard was also exciting. The house is about 2.5 hrs from Traverse City (where we flew into) and about 20 minutes to both Petoskey and Mackinac City. This made for easy excusions to both. The house is very clean with all the basic amenities, and James was very responsive the few times I had a question during our stay. I'd highly recommend this property.

Family re-union at Pellston
This property had everything that one would expect from a vacation rental and then some. We loved every minute of our stay here. The location, the ambience, and the incredible access to the airport (less than 5 minutes) were all appreciated.

Farm stay was wonderful
Great location, short drives to Charlevoix, Mackinaw City for the ferry, and more. The whole family including the dog loved the cow companions. House was well maintained and clean. We enjoyed cool weather and the windows open all day and night. The only down point was the lack of WiFi and not so great data to research our day trips. We can’t be too spontaneous with the young kids so that was difficult. Otherwise a truly great stay, we would definitely come to stay again.
