See the art of Medellín’s famous 20th-century muralist in the house where he lived and created some of his work.

At the former home of Medellín’s renowned artist Pedro Nel Gómez see more than 1,500 works of art. When Gomez passed away in 1984, he donated the building so that it could be the Pedro Nel Gómez House Museum (Casa Museo Pedro Nel Gómez). The interior walls of the museum are adorned with paintings and murals, and its rooms are full of sculptures and wooden carvings. Several of Gómez’s rooms, such as his personal library, have been preserved and are part of the museum.

Ten of the house’s rooms are on exhibit. Wander through the spacious rooms and admire the celebrated artwork on exhibit. Pay special attention to Gómez’s famous murals that cover the walls. These beautiful murals depict Medellín’s past and document the history of Antioquia, the state in which Medellín resides. There is a wide variety of art on display, including oil paintings, watercolours, engravings and sculptures.

Gómez’s family established the museum in 1975 as an homage to his artwork. Gómez maintained residence in the home up until he passed away in the early 1980s. The museum is open from morning to late in the afternoon.

The Pedro Nel Gómez House Museum is located in the heart of Medellín. To get to the museum, ride the subway to Caribe station. From there, head east for several blocks. Visitors can also go to Universidad Station and then walk north down Carrera 52 for a few minutes. The museum is a five-minute cab ride away from Medellín’s northern bus terminal. After your visit, explore the nearby Joaquin Antonio Uribe Botanical Gardens and the University of Antioquia.
