Booked a 2 night stay and wouldn't go back. On arriving , trying to check in, was advised that the mansger would be 5/10 minutes so had to stand and wait to get checked in. Room very nice. Had paid for breakfast for both mornings. Went down on 1st morning for breakfast at 10am only to be told that there was no chef so couldn't get breakfast at hotel but could walk down to the Scotsman Hotel and they would provide us with breakfast. Was then advised from the General Manager that sometimes they don't do breakfast at hotel and you would have to walk to Scotsman Hotel to get this. No where on website does it state this.

The room was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. Although a busy area, we didn’t hear much noise. The pub downstairs had good food and live music.

The hotel is amazing. Building, location, room, facilities, bar everything with one exception. Booked a superior room specifically for the benefit of the large shower and standalone deep bath for us to use. The mixer tap ran cool so it didn't work. Thought it may be the hotel water system ane tried again the following morning same issue but the shower was hot. They need to replace the mixer tap and it would be 10/10 but it was a disappointment. Would I stay again?. In a heartbeat but I will follow up with the hotel directly to advise them.

A very enjoyable stay. Rooms were clean, tastefully furnished with beautiful fittings, very comfortable bed/mattress. Very good breakfast. Historic property conveniently located in city center.

Wow!!!! There just happened to be 2 nights available at this hotel when we were visiting Edinburgh. Our flight arrived early in the morning, but the staff allowed us to leave some small bags there so that we could explore the city for the day. We were exhausted by the evening and ordered food from the restaurant to take up to our room. The staff were so kind and brought it up for us. We can't say enough about the staff and how they made us feel comfortable and at home. The bed was super comfortable and we could adjust the air in the room. The room is updated and modern. We appreciated the coffee and tea we could make for ourselves as well. The location is amazing and we could easily walk to all of the sights and the train station. This was a great way to begin our trip to Scotland! Thanks again!

Reserved a 2 twin room but got a double. Also they didnt open breakfast at 8:00am. We had paid for this while booking hotel. After 8:07 we had to leave so dont add breakfast if you have to leave early. The room was very clean and staff was friendly

One night stay
The check in was ok although the desk was very small. Very short staffed. Tyler was amazing. There is no lift in the hotel so we had to carry our bags all way to our room 9 on the top floor. The window was broken so there was temporary fix however the wind howled throughout the night. We were given a bottle of Prosecco which was a nice touch. Room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was lovely. The stairway was dirty and dirty laundry was left.

We were fortunate to stay (accidentally) at the time the Queen was taken to Edinburgh. The hotel was beautiful and central to the tributes Staff friendly and helpful

Great location, the hotel room was comfortable and nicely appointed. The stairs up to the room could use an upgrade, very stained dirty carpet. The room was quiet until 3am when the night clubs down the street let out and the partiers hit the streets! The cab stand was right outside the hotel. Earplugs helped!

High recommend, nice staff, best location you could have in the middle of the mile. Do NOT book if you can't manage stairs, there is no elevator (old building - part of its charm!)

Perfect location but it's so noisy that you can't sleep well. The room is very, very dirty plus there is no elevator, so if you have heavy luggage, you will suffer to reach your room.

Not a 4 star hotel
This is not a 4 star hotel!! On arrival the manager acknowledged us and we then waited 15 minutes to be checked in. 4 staff floating around but only the manager was authorised to check us in. After being shown to the room we noted that the cleanliness in the bathroom was very poor, especially the toilet seat. We raised this with the housekeeping staff and the issue was resolved. The hotel has a separate secure entry/exit door for when the bar is closed. On leaving the hotel through this exit we found that the step was covered in vomit. On returning to the room later we found more issues relating to the cleanliness of the room. Hairs in towels, in the bed, dirty cups and blood stained bedding. At this point it was 11pm but we made the decision to inform management as we were not prepared to stay in the room overnight. Please note at this point there no staff onsite after midnight. Everything was reported to the manager, who was apologetic and informed us he was new to the job. He then offered to get us a room in their sister hotel. We accepted and it then took a further 30 mins to get all of our details transferred from one hotel to the next. We finally got into our room at 12.30am. We parked offsite at the local NCP car park. We have since discovered that the hotel is affiliated with this car park and we could have received a 20% discount on the parking.

Disappointing
Great location in the centre of Edinburgh next to lots of shops, bars and restaurants, but the downside is lots of noise from revellers, noise from traffic on the main road and the church bells on the hour. Unfortunately, the above added with a very soft mattress resulted in 4 nights of poor sleep.

Awesome place.
Awesome place, great location, everything great; they have a little treat waiting for you in the room when you check in, and there's an extra (portable) heater in the room if you need it. The room is very nice, bathroom is big. The matrass is good, not soft. Stairs only tho, seems to be the case for all the historic hotels here, and their 1st floor is like a North American 2nd floor.

Very disappointing, give it a miss
The location is the only decent thing about this place, otherwise it was very disappointing - staff were unfriendly, the entrance/downstairs bar had a strange smell, the staircase and corridors leading to the bedrooms were in need of some TLC and the bedroom (room 6) was also the same (the floor was very scratched and the furniture was stained or looking worse for wear). The bathroom door was odd - didn’t quite fit the door frame which meant there was a noticeable gap - not great when one needed privacy! No conditioner in the bathroom and the bedroom safe didn’t work (seemed the battery or power was dead).

The property was really lovely and in a brilliant location for discovering Edinburgh. It would have been nice to be able to have our breakfast there but the Scotsman Hotel staff were very welcoming too.

Worth it!
The Inn staff provided excellent service throughout. Although a busy Friday night during the Fringe, as we were hotel guests, they made sure we were taken care of. The room and bed were really comfortable and the windows allowed us to block out the Mile noise for a great sleep. The room was extremely clean but the grout in the bathroom was old which was a let down. Overall for a treat, it was worth it!

One night stay in queen room
Very spacious room with a good sized bed and excellent views of North Bridge. The bathroom was also very big with a gorgeous bathtub. Would definitely recommend booking the queen size room!
