This listing is an absolute SCAM. Do not book here. I will redact this review if the manager agrees to the refund that she promised when we were forced to leave the apartment in the middle of the night due to smoke coming through the walls and a consistent high pitch screeching noise that went on for hours making it impossible to sleep. In addition the property manager was utterly unreachable and unresponsive, to the point that we almost had no place to stay when we arrived. DO NOT STAY HERE.

DO NOT STAY HERE! This was the worst travel experience I've had. The apartment was not at all as advertised. The photos are totally misleading. The space is small, dirty, and dingy. The bed in the main room had a massive spring poking up in the middle. The coffee table in the photo was missing one of the two glass panels. The sofa in the living area was torn and ratty. The second bedroom was a closet. The TV remotes had no batteries. We surveyed this filthy rat trap for 30 minutes and concluded there was no way to stay there. We made repeated attempts to contact the property manager to no avail. We contacted Expedia to help. Finally, we reached the property manager who very reluctantly agreed to refund our money. Which, as it turns out, was a LIE! She never refunded our money. These people ruined what otherwise could have been a very nice visit to Brooklyn. Their apartment is total garbage and their customer service is appalling. The experience has actually pushed us back into hotels.

I called Carmen on the 28th of December to confirm the apartment would be ready for us to arrive, as I had read a horrible review of someone who had a bad experience with this home owner recently. She said everything would be ready for us to stay when we arrived. The day came, we arrived at the apartment building at 10:00 PM, and the key was not in the box where she stated it would be, after reaching out she said the housekeeper had taken it with him by accident and that it would be sent on a Uber right away, after nearly 30 mins of waiting the key finally arrived, once we got into the apartment it was disgusting, there was no way I was going to stay there, now we had no apartment and no money to book anything else, she’d promised the apartment would be the same as pictured. She promised me a refund but that she wasn’t able to send it until the day after. Here I am, it’s been exactly 2 weeks and we have not received our full refund. I wish I could post pictures of how disgusting this apartment was.

SAVE YOURSELF MONEY AND ANGER AND DO NOT BOOK THIS LISTING!!! As per the other reviews, these pictures and this address are NOT where Carmen will actually put you up!! Truly on me for not reading the reviews before choosing to rent but man I will never make that mistake again. A half hour before arriving, Carmen called and let us know there was a "furnace issue" in this apartment and she'd have to move us to another location. Sound familiar?? Well let me tell you. The place where she put us up....was foul. I would've rather gotten frost bite with the broken furnace in the pictured apartment then stay where she placed us. And not only that, it was a studio apartment. A STUDIO APARTMENT. ONE BED. FOR FOUR PEOPLE. MEN AND WOMEN. The location was also closer to Stuyvesant and Bushwick than it was to where you'd want to be in Williamsburg. So maybe you're thinking "at least she'll give them a discount"...NOPE! She argued that she usually charges more for this apartment than the one we were supposed to have. Charges more for a studio in Stuyvesant, than a two bedroom in Williamsburg?????? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. This is how I know for a fact that its a scam. If she was genuinely feeling bad she would've discounted this but no, full price. We didn't have any option at that point but to stay since we were already in Brooklyn from way out of town and paid upfront for this place. The decor of the place pictured is far different than what you'll be getting as well. Pictured is clean, bright, neat, minimalist. The studio is a hoarders paradise. Weird gadgets and tchotchkes everywhere. Dirty cups in the kitchen. Red painted wall. Not at all quaint or charming. MORAL OF THE STORY: AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!! AND shame on VRBO as well for allowing this listing to stay up when 3 of their customers have been scammed by this woman. After calling there's apparently no way they can refund us or help out either.... Pathetic excuse for a website. The least they could do is take this post down but apparently they just want more people to lose money and to lose more customers because of it. Good luck!!

          Bait and switch.

We reserved one property but were told they were going to upgrade us because there were mechanical difficulties in the one we reserved. Carmen tried to make things right but we believe that we were duped into thinking this was a rental property when it was actually her personal apartment on Varet St. It was an upgrade but only because the one on Lorimer St was horrible. Not clean. Very little communication.
