Unfulfilled potential - looks like a 5 star, but acts like a 3 star.
The Good - close to Anse Vata, direct beach access, and set in beautiful grounds with a large pool. The rooms & beds are large and comfortable, and we enjoyed the balcony overlooking the pool. Overall it was very quiet and safe. Great breakfast buffet and huge choice on offer in a very nice setting.
The Bad - the service. We specifically booked Le Meridien to use the large pool as swimming at beaches is banned. However it was closed due to unexpected maintenance issues. There was no communication about this. We eventually complained and were given resort credit and offered to use the hotel next door. However this had ongoing construction noise so wasn't a good solution. Nothing was pro-actively communicated to us, so if we had not complained, would never have known about anything.
The hotel fire alarm went off late at night, we got stuck in a lift once, and were told the Fare restaurant was open in the evenings - it wasn't. The sole choice was the L'Hippo restaurant, well out of our budget. We had to use room service, and order at reception as room phone didn't connect anywhere. The concierge and tour desk were also closed.
The hotel has the facilities to be excellent but only if they are open and managed. Individual staff were friendly and helpful. Communication is key, and there was zero forthcoming by management. We will not go there again and cannot recommend it unless things change.
