Take a trip back to a bygone era with this wonderfully preserved veteran 1930s theme park, with Sydney’s broadest smile!

Luna Park is a fun amusement park with a foot firmly planted in the past. There are rides galore to suit all age groups whether you’re looking for thrilling hair-raising rides or something altogether more sedate. Built in the 1930s, over the past eight decades, the park has earned a special place in the heart of local residents, and remains a popular tourist destination.

A unique experience, with its collection of rides that are listed on the New South Wales Heritage Register, this is an old-fashioned funfair with enough modern rides to keep teens amused for several hours. Admission is free and you enter the park through the giant clown’s mouth a perfect spot for a photo!

In addition to its historical rides, the park offers a whole host of more edgy rides. Hop onto the bone-rattling Wild Mouse roller coaster, or spiral into outer space on the Flying Saucer. One thing this theme park can’t be accused of is being uneventful!

Other notable rides include the Tumble Bug, with its rotating arms, and if you are brave enough, the Moon Ranger suspends its riders 20 metres above the ground. Defy gravity on the Rotor attraction as it dramatically sweeps you back and forth. For nostalgia seekers, there are more traditional fairground attractions contained within Luna Park. Dodgems and helter-skelters are always fund and will appeal to anyone who grew up with fairgrounds. There’s even a fully-operational 1930s carousel.

For smaller children, there’s a section entirely dedicated to children’s rides, from a Space Shuttle ride to the likes of the Magic Castle and Whirly Wheel. Coney Island is also aimed at younger park goers, being a 1930s fun house complete with slides, magic mirrors and a rotating Joy Wheel.

When hunger strikes, check out the Lighthouse Cafe and Coney Island Café, both offering food for young palates and also for more sophisticated tastes. There is live music and shows held throughout the year to provide entertainment for family members of all generations.

It’s free to get into Luna Park but rides and attractions are individually priced. The park is open all-year round. There is a train stop in close vicinity to the park, or take the ferry from Circular Quay to the adjacent harbour.

Lines were long to buy tickets and you were unable to get individual ride tickets online. We wanted to buy a 2 ride pass, but were unable to purchase this online, so had to wait for 30 minutes in the queue.
