Great location very close to Kings Cross station. Check in was via the hospital next door and was easy enough. Overall hotel is tired and grubby - there were piles of dirty linen on each floor by the stairs when we arrived at 9pm.

Dear Guest Thank you for you feedback The room you stayed in was the same shown in the photos online. The day you arrived we had 3 cleaners not come to work so we were extremely short staffed. We were fortunate enough that the staff we did have agreed to work until late into the evening, so guests would have rooms to go into. Hence the laundry on each floor, the cleaners had not yet managed to collect it, as they were still cleaning rooms. We hope you had a good trip. Regards

It was a nightmare, there are bedbugs in the bedroom, kitchen doesn’t work, WiFi was impossible to connect, there was a leak in the bathroom, the staff solved using a can beneath, the third floor without elevator if you Bring luggage is an important issue. the hotel is very old the floor is really noisy and is lifting up

Tiny, very tiny
I stayed there for one night because I had an early-morning train from King's Cross. This place has the smallest rooms I've seen. They've squeezed in every millimetre of accommodation space: the shower is over the toilet, the bed occupies so much of the room there's barely space for a backpack (certainly not for a suitcase), the halls are narrower than a normal person's shoulders. The reception desk is three buildings away. It's clean and the receptionist is professional, but the building is ridiculously cramped.

We actually dealt with the Hotel Melville. There are many small hotels all in a row next to each other, all near the King's Cross train station, and some of them seem related to each other, perhaps under the same administration or ownership. As we were four persons with a lot of baggage, we were actually assigned a place around the corner called Flat No. 1. The staff were very considerate in putting us there, because we needed the room. The flat was in the basement but had its own entrance by a stairway down from the street and was huge. We had two bedrooms with two double beds. The bedding was fresh and clean and the beds comfortable. The flat appeared to be freshly cleaned as well as possible. There was also a kitchen with a long computer workstation with lots of plug-ins, and there were lots of various kinds of outlets in the bedrooms. The only complaints were that there seemed to be a small amount of mold around the light fixture in the bathroom, which was otherwise well cleaned, and the kitchen faucet dripped. On the whole, however, it was a nice place for tired travelers.

Excelsior - Business Trip
I was a little bit nervous of the location - dodgy looking park over the road. KX & St Pan just 200 yds away - loads of eateries & new bars. Overall a pleasant enough experience at a reasonable price.

The property is located within walking distance from the St Pancreas International. Which was very nice and convenient. However, the hotel had no air conditioning and we were located on top floor which was 6 flights on narrow steps especially when packing luggage. No breakfast was included and WiFi strength was very poor. The bathroom was only big enough for one to turn around in. The bathroom ceiling appeared to have been duct taped in a spot above toilet? When we went to check out and we turned in key (yes they still had a key) the gentleman just looked at us. Not to mention the TV would not program in the room. The hotel was definitely overpriced for the room you would have expected

Ideal location
We had a 2 bed apartment and actually the beds were clean and fresh towels, the apartment doesn’t look great but it served the purpose and you cannot get nearer to kings cross if we tried.

1am room change due to being eaten alive by bed bugs! The hotel offered no compensation and blamed the previous guests! Disgusting!

It’s not convenient that you have to pay an extra 2£ for a new towel. The window allows cold air in, so make sure to close your curtain. The bedding has lots of stains, even though it is washed (I hope). Just imagine staying at a cheap college dormitory where genders are not separated.

True service shows when things go wrong
I'll start by saying that I've stayed with this group of hotels a couple of times before and its been OK, however on my stay this week things were very different... When I arrived on Tuesday evening they had lost my reservation. There was some scrabbling around and suggestions that a relation of mine had rung up to cancel (they hadn't). Eventually I was told I could stay in a flat they had nearby and have a room in the hotel the next day. It was a basement flat about 1/4mile away. They gave me a code and key for the doors to get in, when I got there the code didn't work. I had to ring the reception, it took about 10 mins for them to pick up and they then found the right code. Then the key didn't fit. Another phone call and this time I needed to wait for the receptionist to come over. When he let me into the flat it was well over an hour after I had first arrived at the hotel. The flat was basic, dark and damp. The TV didn't get a good enough signal to be able to watch and there was no wifi. Back at the hotel in the morning I asked about leaving my bag and I was told that it was fine, but there was no proper storage (I could see others just left in the hallway) and the receptionist wouldn't give me a receipt, so I kept my bag and said I expected some form of refund for the first night. I arrived back at the hotel in the evening to find that instead of finding me a room they had cancelled my reservation! So I was left at 7.30pm in London without a hotel... UNBELIEVABLE.

Good for a night out not for families
We checked into our room late on a Saturday night and were given a room on the ground floor. The room itself is perfectly fine but sadly the noise outside meant we were unable to get much sleep. Location is excellent and if not for the noise I believe this hotel could be rated a lot higher. If you are on a night out and just need somewhere to crash late on I'm sure this would be perfect.

We had a very pleasant experience at the Excelsior. Our large family of 5 had plenty of room. It was very quiet and the beds were comfortable. Our only complaint was that there was no air conditioning, and it got quite hot in the room with 5 people in it.

Convenient location
This basic hotel is conveniently located within a few minutes walk of King's Cross and St Pancras Stations. We have stayed there before for that reason. You get what you pay for, a modest room with basic en suite facilities. It was quiet and clean and the bed was very comfortable, but it was down very steep stairs. The owner agrees that the bathroom is due for an upgrade.

The hotel is litterally a 30 second walk from Kings cross station, ideal for travel anywhere in London. Few minor problems include the shower which you could run at either scolding hot or not at all as the water seemed to stop if you tried to turn it down, lack of tea/coffee in the morning despite their been a kettle in the room nothing was supplied and the blind not fully covering the window causing a mini Blackpool illuminations. In summary, cheap and cheerful with easy access to the rest of London, pros outweigh the cons.

Does the job
It was a great area and the room did the job, quite small but it was at a very good price compared to others in the surrounding area. Shared toilets and shower but it was all very clean. Does the job if you just need somewhere to crash.
