Our first room was small with a tiny bathroom with a bathtub only, no real shower. The storage space was minimal. This was in the old part of the hotel which was attractive but also in need of renovation.
Our upgraded room (50 pounds per night) was in the much prettier new part of the hotel and was bigger and had a wonderful bathroom.
The public areas of the hotel are very nice, the bar lounge was very pleasant, the live piano trio was great, the drinks and bar menu were excellent. One night we ate at the starred Indian restaurant next door and had a great meal.
On the negative side, the front door did not close firmly so when there was a storm the first night, we could hear the door jiggling in place. It took us several tries to get rid of the noise, which we did by stuffing toilet paper in the door. The next morning we mentioned this to reception and they gave us a perfunctory apology and said they would take care of it. I checked later and either no one had come or they did nothing because the situation was unchanged. However, the weather cleared up so we said nothing further about this.
The second thing was at times you would run into areas where there was an unpleasant smell or where there was a very strong scent which we imagined was their attempt to cover up the odor.
