Location was great. Hotel is VERY noisy at night with doors slamming and hearing people in adjacent rooms. Most upset about having room change inconvenience and time spent resolving as they put us in the wrong room based on what we paid (paid for King and they put us in a Queen). But they left our bags near the front desk all day, sitting unsecured area, when they assured us they would move them to our new room for us, and did not. I just happen to see our bags sitting there when we returned that evening!

BEWARE. Bait and switch. Half of the property, the Pine side, has been renovated and is absolutely gorgeous. The other half is a nightmare from 1940. They don’t show pictures of the bad side. The only picture they show is of the bed, which is accurate. They neglect to show the formica bathroom, stained nasty carpet tiles, old ikea dresser with dorm fridge and microwave sitting on top. The room smelled of bleach so bad it made my eyes sting. There is not one picture of the pink exterior with crumbling concrete, exposed plumbing, AC units on the balcony, and rusted railings. The cheapest rooms are from this side. When the email you to upgrade that is why. We ended up with a beautiful room in the good side but at a huge price increase, even with their ‘discount’. The poor front desk staff seem immune to the constant stream of angry and disappointed customers on the ‘Nasty side’ as a I heard another patron call it.

The pictures posted for this property are for the renovated section. If you rent a standard room they do not tell you it is in the non renovated side. The side we got was filthy, stained carpets, broken unsafe area under sink, stained sofa….. Do not stay here

Location was great and had a nice view of the ocean. Rooftop seating area was the highlight. Our room was in the older section of the hotel and it was run down. Balcony had a lot of rust and the door to the balcony didn’t open and close properly. Also some rust in the bathroom and the water temperature in the shower changed dramatically while taking a shower.

The renovated portion (The Pines) of the hotel is very nice, and this is where we ended up staying… be cautious when booking and pay attention to the details of the room. The original room we booked was not on the renovated side of the hotel, and the photos were VERY misleading, and there was no mention of partial renovations. We arrived for check in, and our original room was BEYOND disappointing. I wouldn’t have slept a wink all week, and we arrived with two young children who were tired and starving after a day of traveling across the country. The room was dated, dingy, filthy, all surfaces damaged and scratched, I wiped surfaces with a Clorox wipe and it was black afterwards, etc. I didn’t even let my kids take their shoes off. After a discussion with the front desk and the reservation line, we were able to switch to the renovated side of the hotel, but for an upgrade fee of course. The new rooms are very nice, and you can’t beat the location, but the booking/check in experience was just a very disappointing way to start off our first time in La Jolla. It was later disclosed to me that there is intent to gut and remodel the remaining portion of the hotel in the fall.

Great location but rooms need a bit of updating. Room heater did not work and had to get a portable heater which did not work well enough for the space. We were ocean front and the view from the balcony was spectacular. That made up for heating problem.

I stayed in the renovated portion of the hotel with an ocean view. The view was absolutely incredible and I could see and hear the sea lions in La Jolla Cove from the balcony in the room. The room had upgraded amenities with push button lights. It was much more affordable than other ocean view rooms in La Jolla. The room wouldn’t have matched the price in other cities but for the view it was very worth it. Also I came early to drop luggage off (11am) and my room was ready so I checked in early free of charge.

This property was misrepresented on the Expedia app. The size of the room and the 3/4 bath was not revealed in the listing. Way too small for two people and inconvenient. Great location. Parking was expensive but easy and street parking would have been impossible. Pool was freezing cold, definitely not heated, hot tub was excellent. Mornings were loud with garbage trucks and service vehicles. View and roof top area were spectacular. Sea lions barked all night, which we liked but might not be for everyone.

Paid for a penthouse suite. Instead found out the next day that there is another suite above us so not a penthouse. Floor needs to be cleaned. The room above has someone stomping back and forth early in the morning.

That hotel needs a huge remodel, walk in the room is smells weird, the bed needs to be updated, ac turn on smells like no maintenance has been done to it. That hotel needs deep cleaning. This ocean view suite with balcony was greatly enjoyed! There are a few minor details around the property they could attend to (random command hooks on walls of elevator some with hooks others without) that could easily be spruced up (tiny rust outside is completely understandable in the salt air). My suite was updated and when I figured out how to turn off the auto bright bathroom light then my night bathroom was no longer a too bright affair. Overall excellent location!!

We had a great stay, The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Our room was clean, nice towels, bedding and amenities .We did reserve the New Pines Oceanfront, which was a complete difference their attached older section. We had a perfect view from our oceanfront balcony. The coffee shop, Parakeet was perfect for morning coffe and pastries.

This is the worst maintained property I have ever stayed at. They have renovated half of the place and we are in the old part. They blame Expedia for that. The staff is rude when you question them about it.
