5/5 Excellent

Great snorkeling!
We were out snorkeling every day and saw almost a dozen sea turtles! The beach and road both get busy on nice days, and especially on weekends, but this is due to how fantastic the beach is. We were very close to the town of Kīlauea, which has a nice grocery and several good places to eat. The drive to Hanalei was further, and complicated by the road closure schedule, but we planned accordingly and still made a few trips into town, including one en route to the Nepali coast trail (book parking ahead of time!). We’d stay here again!

5/5 Excellent

Amazing place on an amazing island!
The house was perfect for our family. The location on one of the island’s safest beaches, in close proximity (short drive) to tons of activities and resources. Nothing can beat a stroll across the narrow road to our own beach where we did tons of swimming, snorkling and sunbathing. House is not super fancy or updated, but was perfectly adequate for our needs and the full view of the beach and ocean through the front windows and from the front porch made us miss it the second we left!

1/5 Terrible

Loud construction and poor communication
This house would normally be in a good location with a direct ocean view and a lovely beach just across the street. Positives were that chairs and towels were provided, the kitchen is large, and there is a large washer and dryer. However, the rental agency did not disclose to us that there would be a major house renovation next door. The house next door was gutted during our stay, which meant loud noise from 7-8 am until evening 7 days per week. We tried to contact management repeatedly, by phone and through their app, beginning with the first day of our stay. We requested to talk to them to work something out and possibly even move to another rental place, even if it didn't have an ocean view, just to have some quiet. Management has refused to respond. The maintenance workers did come out for a few issues and they were helpful and friendly. We booked a place with a lanai looking at the ocean specifically to relax, and our relaxation was ruined. In addition, the house needs a lot of maintenance and cleaning, especially on windows and doors, and insect control (many large cockroaches, both dead and alive, one that fell on me from the ceiling). The website photo/description was inaccurate about bedding, which made for uncomfortable sleeping arrangements for those expecting their own bed in a closed bedroom rather than in the great room where shades couldn't be drawn, and the master bed was much smaller than posted. All of this could have been made right if the rental company would have just returned our messages rather than refusing to communicate. We have stayed on Kauai many times over the years, and all other experiences have been very pleasant. This is the first time using Kauai Exclusive Management, and I would not rent from them again.

2/5 Poor

House needs much work
This was a perfect beach home at one time. It has not been properly maintained. Property manager promised to have broken dinning chair replaced, never did during our 2 week stay. PVC pipe is used for main lock on all doors and windows which all have rusted broken locks. No shades for HUGE front windows. Sun makes no a/c home very hot, trade winds do not do the job. No privacy at night all can see in. Public lines cars up in front of the home blocking most of the view. The property manager will not answer the phone if you press 1 for rentals. He answers the phone if you press 2 for sales. When we arrived we had been given the wrong combo to get in the home and had a long and difficult time to get help. The canoe on the side is rotted out, and the the garage is a mess, The refrigerator leaks water, The paneling on the bathroom doors is separating, Mirrored closet is coming apart. Shower faucet is broken. Cockroaches., geckos and ants in the house. I tried to communicate to the owner , She did not reply to me so I am compelled to let others know. Also illegal campfires are almost every night on the beach filling the no a/c home with smoke.

AHH-mazing getaway
Renting this was a breeze. Location right across from the beach was truly ideal. Wrap around porch offered ample and relaxing coverage from the sun and occasional rain showers. The house is older but quaint and had everything you could need from pits, pans, bowls, utensils, books, games, towels for house and beach, first aid kits, flashlights, tools, and a huge detached shed full of sand toys, chairs, fins, etc... for the beach. We ended up renting our own snorkel gear and found great reefs right out the door. Just a little bit father out is a huge drop off where we swam with turtles, rays, and even a reef shark. Evenings were spent lounging at home playing games, cooking our own meals, and listening to either the sound of the surf or rain to put us to sleep. Truly a magical place! Suggest hitting stores to stock up on food as meals out were very expensive. Hanalei is a great town to visit when roads were open.
