Be sure you want what you’re getting here! Many pros but some serious cons.
This little condo has a nice layout: two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs; kitchen, living room, and half bath downstairs; and two ocean-facing lanais with beautiful views (partially obstructed by a big tree). The landscaping of the complex is lush and gorgeous. The location is great, making both north shore and south shore Kauai very accessible. You can walk (though not always on sidewalks) to grocery & drug stores, weekly farmers’ market, and restaurants. SUP and snorkel rental places are also nearby. We are happy to report that we did not smell any mildew, as a previous reviewer mentioned. There were very few chickens (aka roosters waking @5:30) around while we were there.
The kitchen is very small but has recently upgraded granite countertops and a decent microwave, dishwasher, and smooth-top range. The beds were fine. The tv is small by today’s standards but was fine, as was the wifi and cable.
The local property manager for this unit was fabulous. We had a plumbing issue early on our month-long stay. She quickly got us into a nice alternate place for a few days while the plumber fixed it and the house cleaners re-sanitized everything.
This rental unit is very, very outdated. No doubt it was nice several decades ago, but it seems like it hasn’t gotten much love since then. Dishes, glassware, and silverware are mismatched and random and knives dull. In the upstairs bathroom, vinyl wallpaper is curling off the walls, the shower is very small, and counter space is minimal. The larger bedroom has nowhere to put your stuff except in the closet. The smaller bedroom has a large empty dresser and an almost-empty closet. Doorknobs, hinges, latches, and other metal fittings have been corroded over time by the salt air, so they look dirty and gross even when they’re clean. Upholstered furniture looks shabby and artworks on the walls are sun-bleached and discolored.
Bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper in the larger (ocean side) bedroom as the high tides can get noisy. Sometimes there are people on the beach not being particularly quiet.
Hopefully this unit will get a thorough renovation sometime soon, as most other units in the complex have, so that its inside can better match its outside. When that happens, this unit will be a little gem.
