Quiet Beachfront Getaway
We loved staying at Villa Delfines because of its quiet low key atmosphere, its rustic charm and low density. Situated in a well manicured garden, on a perfect stretch of sandy beach the 20 palapa roofed cabins are very spacious and charmingly rustic in all the right ways. There's lots of space, privacy and quiet unlike the congested resorts along the beach. It also seems to attract other travelers ( many Europeans) who are quiet and low key....no party-animals. We tend to prefer simplicity, space, privacy and quiet to the thumping beat of techno music and over-styled mod-cons at the other newer, more congested resorts. We spent our days relaxing on the clean and comfy loungers and hammocks under the shade of the palapas between swims. We lunched at Montaray Beach club next door everyday on it's delicious grilled fish ( with garlic and spices) chased down with a cervesa. In the early evenings we enjoyed a 1km stroll into town to watch the sunset on the beach, eat dinner, have drinks and take in the live music and people watching in the vibrant town. How refreshing that behind the veneer of tourist row , the town still has neighbourhoods that haven't been Disneyfied! It was the perfect vacation and we were so grateful to have found this place to stay! Oh and my initial reservations about the composting toilets disappeared, they are super clean and have ventilation so don't at all smell.

Great eco hotel right on the beach
Great location, a short walk down the beach from the downtown core. The individual cabins allow for great privacy and are spacious and comfortable. The composting toilets and solar heated showers demonstrate the hotel's committment to lessening their impact on this beautiful island.

family friendly eco resort on the beach
Villas Delfines is more rustic that other hotels in the same price range, the food and service is lacking, but it has a charming island feel, pool, and is on the best stretch of beach. Delfines is an eco hotel, and you can feel good about that...it is located in an ideal spot...the beach is gorgeous...also family friendly.

Great hotel right by the beach
Overall this island itself is very laid back and relaxing and this hotel reflects that. Do not expect Resort All Inclusive type of experience. You walk with your luggage to your room, no bell boys etc. This is for those who want to experience something different and explore the island or just lounge by the beach. The rooms are bungalow style, rustic, nothing fancy. We had no bad experience in the rooms. They were very clean, spacious and fresh (AC). Beds had mosquito nets which was great. Lots of windows and the hammocks outside the room were awesome. It had a small fridge and coffee maker. NOTE: The toilets are eco friendly (no flushing). I forgot name of this system but you do not use water. It does not smell bad at all and it was a pleasant experience to know we were saving water. We traveled with two kids and they had no problems with the toilets. There is one restaurant at the hotel which served decent food. We ordered hamburgers, omelettes, and ceviche and all were good. Just beware that even the restaurant atmosphere in the whole island is very laid back. Service can be considered a bit slow but that is really just how it is here. There are iguanas roaming around the premises and if you are not afraid of these animals it is quite nice, they keep to themselves. The pool is small but we did not use it ... the beach is too beautiful to be at a pool. Staff was friendly and helpful. BRING MOSQUITO/BUG REPELLENT - NOT THE AEROSOL KIND. CREAM ONE WORKS BEST.

Love this hotel
We have stayed at Villas Delfines three times now, and would visit again in a hearbeat! The huts are simple and low key, yet stylish and comfortable. We all slept like babies. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and it is one of the most relaxing places you can stay in, even with three kids! The location is perfect for us, an easy walk into 'town', yet far enough away to be completely peaceful. It is one of my favourite places in the world!

Perfect location
We have just returned from a week's stay at Villas Delfines. The location couldn't be more perfect- right on the beachfront and a short walk from town. It is incredibly peaceful and both the manager and his female front of house assistant (apologies, we didn't get her name!) were very helpful, especially with an issue we had with one of the tours (nothing to do with Villa Delfines). Unfortunately, some of the other members of staff were less helpful (although this could be partly due to the language barrier and/or what we called "Holbox timing"); food service was particularly slow. We loved our room and it was cleaned beautifully every day and very comfortable - touches such as the in room water tank, shell shower and extra blankets made for a very enjoyable stay. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

very basic Hotel on the beach not more than 1 star
How can you rate this hotel 4 stars. Absolutely basic, nothing in the cabin, no AC, not flush toilette, a hole in the ground, one broken chair outside the cabin and a hanging mat, no WIFI at the cabins, on the lobby very, very limited, breakfast extra $5.00 for a egg, minimum maintenance around the ground. Price against was offered total rip off.

Nice chilled hotel close to the beach
This is a great hotel in the very chilled island of Holbox. The hotel was well located, close to the nicest beaches but walking distance or "golf cart taxi" distance from village center. This hotel is a collection of individual and very spacious huts. You have a choice of air condition or not (we went with not), and you are provided with plenty of fans and fresh water in room. Showe facilities were basic but charming and water was always plentiful and good temperature, all provided by solar power use. Our room had a kind bed and a single bed and could have easily hosted a family. The toilet was an Eco-toilet which I was surprised with with regards to odors and friendliness of use. It worked great. The hotel has a restaurant and offers basic continental breakfast, but an ala carte menu is also available at cost. They were always extremely attentive and kind and offered us lots of drinks and small snacks for free (in fact that happened a be all over the island). They also booked out transfer from the hotel and worked fantastic despite the hours of our flights. They thought of everything and provided us with the tickets for all the different segments ( 2 hour car+ 35 min ferry + 10 min golf cart taxi). The only con and this was a con for the whole island not just this hotel is that the island has some voracious Mosquitos. We knew this to be the case and were prepared... But they were smart! The hotel provided in wall Moskito repellent. Overall was great!

great stay
I had lost my debit card and was without pesos, and there are no banks on the island. The staff worked with us to help us out. In addition the power went out in our palapa and they arranged for us to move to a different hotel, but we stayed in the powerless palapa, the next day they upgraded us to a new palapa. The staff was attentive and courteous and very helpful to us as English speakers in a Spanish speaking country. We will definitely return.

A Quiet, Rustic, Eco-Friendly Beach Hotel.
If you want modern glamour or to party all night, then Villas Delfines is NOT for you. This is a 20-year old "eco-resort," of locally constructed thatch-roofed bungalows provided with solar heated showers and composting toilets (so if the sun don't shine you don't have hot water). There are also hammocks hanging on every front porch, mosquito netting over the beds, and ceiling fans; only the larger "ocean view" villas have air conditioning. The bungalows have wi-fi access but NO T.V. and NO PHONE. The feel is rustic, but very comfortable. The rooms, grounds, gardens, and pool are kept immaculately clean, by a very friendly staff. Iguanas are everywhere. The atmosphere is quiet and expansive; even with most of the villas occupied you still fee like you have the place all to yourself. The huge white sand - well groomed - beach goes very gently down into the warm, shallow, Gulf of Mexico; you can walk 50 yards out into the water and still be standing waste deep on soft sand.

Peaceful haven , right on the beach
Very relaxing stay at Villas Delfines. Good breakfast choices and for lunch and dinner. Home made pasta. Delicious cocktails, with and without alcohol. we loved the lemon and mint. The staff were so nice and genuine. If you want a chill out holiday, this is it. The sight of the pale blue sea every morning. The chug of the golf carts. The walk to the village with its excellent restaurant and above all the fresh natural foods on offer. Not a processed thing in sight. Certainly made us feel better than we have for years. A real tonic.

basic hotel in stunning place
Although very pretty and rustic, the hotel was quite basic (eco facilities limit hot water availability on cloudy days, cabana hut style rooms means bugs in rooms and sheets had some stains on and were not ironed) but the location, atmosphere and character of the island were well worth the basic conditions. the beach is stunning, the town is like a fairytale with treehouse restaurants and open air cooking. definitely worth a visit. now there are direct buses from tulum to chiquila via cancun or we saw signs for 70USD taxis to cancun from chiquila. bus takes a couple of hours from cancun.

Fine, just not amazing
Some Highlights: Very clean rooms, great hammocks on the porches, the eco-toilet does not smell at all, very friendly groundskeeper, sufficient in-room lighting. Some Items That Could Improve: The rooms do not have a dresser - we had to keep the suitcases open on the floor rather than unpack, the breakfast was minimal continental, the pool did not seem to be kept up very well (murky water) and was not inviting overall, the internet access computer had missing keys, the beach seating felt neglected... All in all, it was a fine stay, but it wasn't teriffic. With many little details overlooked, the hotel felt like it was someone's side project rather than main focus. We ended up eating at Mawimbe quite often and will likely stay there next time for the good food, convenient location, inviting beach seating, and friendly staff.

Nice getaway
It was an interesting experience (first time on an Ecofriendly hotel), no t.v., no telephone, no flushing... Very relaxed environment, the food is good at the restaurant (especially the shrimp ceviche!) and the service in general is excellent. We had some exotic pets inside the room, nothing dangerous obviously, but exotic anyway

Disappointing
I was at Villa Deflines with my husband and my two little kids. The hotel is in a great location, and you can tell it was once a lovely place. But having just spent a fantastic week at Hotel Mawimbi (which was booked for the final days of our trip, sadly as it was a fantastic place to stay and way better value than Villa Deflines), we were extremely disappointed in what we found here. There were several examples of the lack of care we found at Villa Delfines: - We had dinner the night we arrived and the next morning at breakfast found the same stain on our table cloth that our daughter had made the night before. - Chairs on the beach were dirty and ragged, and the beach itself was not cared for in the same meticulous way as elsewhere. - One of the two hammocks in our beach front cabana had a hole the size of a small child in it. - The waiter at breakfast seemed to be hiding from us so we had to go back to the kitchen to get coffee. I heard from others that the owner does not live on the island and when he visits does not like the guests to know. It's actually sad because the island is such a wonderful place. The pool is great to have and the property is great for kids to be free, but there are better places to stay - especially for the price.

Sole Relaxation
We rented two cabanas with sea view for our kids (12, 13 and 17) and us (42, 46) at Villas Delfines. It was litteraly wonderful. Located next to the beach we would kick back in the hammocks on the deck and enjoy watching the pelicans fishing in the shallow green-blue waters. The cabanas are built on pole structures, each having a deck under the same yucca palm leaf covered roof as the room. Inside it is like in a dome. The four-poster beds are wrapped by mosquito nets. Once you are in, you forget the world around you (if you haven't before...). The toilet is biological, no flushing. A fan, which is slightly hearable, takes the odor out. So, no bad smell at all. The only thing I was worried about was to get so used to the no-flushing that I would forget flushing back home. Every room has A/C in case you need it cold. We prefered listening to the waves. Our reservation included breakfast. That's the only thing I wouldn't recommend. It reminded me to my business trips to Tripoli/Libya. Or in other words: the variety of the buffet was quite limited. However, it is nice that Villas Defines has a restaurant. If you don't feel like walking to town to check out one of the many different restaurants offering all types of food, you can just stay. We are very sure to return. Villas Delfines is the place where your sole can relax and your batteries are fully recharged in just a week.
