About this property

Private Bunkhouse at Half Moon Bay Coastal Ranch

Beachfront Property with kitchen and patio
For families and groups wanting to enjoy life again this is a good place to do that. Safe, clean and private with hiking trails on our own 70 acre property and great cycling out our gate. Enjoy our new BBQ and sitting area outside.

Walk out the door to a Redwood grove to see our nearby Hearth tree, or drive 10 minutes to pristine beaches. The Bunkhouse at Lobitos Creek Ranch is the perfect way to enjoy a family vacation in Northern California. Drive up a beautiful winding road to this secluded private getaway on a ridge above the Pacific Ocean and you’ll feel worlds away. At an elevation of 1000 feet above sea level our climate is warm and sunny most of the time. When it is hot in the Bay Area you can almost always rely on a cool ocean breeze at the Bunkhouse

From the Bunkhouse, you are within an hour of top Northern California destinations from San Francisco to Silicon Valley to Santa Cruz.

We have recently improved our hiking trails on the Ranch for visitors. Our own horses, Dusty and Casino, are favorites for guests to interact with. Horseback rides are available in Half Moon Bay on the beach or in the redwoods.

We are about 40 minutes from SFO and 15 minutes from charming Half Moon Bay with its many restaurants and shops.

The Bunkhouse has become one of the favorite Northern California destinations for guests both local, out of state and from overseas. For people with groups larger than 4-6 the ranch features two other adjacent lodges listed below to accommodate larger family reunions, retreats, birthday events and weddings.

The other lodges are:
The Main Ranch House:, sleeps 6-8
The Canyon View House: , sleeps 6-8

For those interested in having events here and using all of our lodges please contact us.

Take the video or the 3D virtual tour of the Bunkhouse. It features a Cal King in the Master bedroom, and a bunk room with two twin beds. The couch in the living room-dining room folds out to a queen size bed. There is a kitchen, bathroom and living room with a wood-burning fireplace. Firewood is outside by the BBQ.

Amenities include a flat screen TV, WiFi connectivity, private parking, an outdoor picnic area with a propane grill and also a Webber charcoal grill. There is a basketball hoop and two basketballs. It’s an ideal choice for a family of four.

For dog owners we have a half-acre fenced in dog run in our orchard where your pets can explore and discharge some energy.

With so many things to do in Northern California, planning your days can be a tough order. Adventures including: hiking, mountain biking, sea kayaking, sailing, deep sea fishing, golf and tennis are all close by. The wildlife viewing opportunities in the Bay Area are exceptional. From whale watching to birding, you won't be disappointed. The Bunkhouse at Lobitos Creek Ranch is only 25 minutes from the world heritage site at Año Nuevo State Park where from January to March the spectacle of hundreds of mating elephant seals is on display.

In October we are known for our pumpkins. From town in Half Moon Bay, it's only 45 minutes North to downtown San Francisco. Take a cable car to visit Chinatown or a ferry to Sausalito, discover BART and head over to Berkeley. It's no accident that Apple, Google, Facebook, Uber, Airbnb and many more call the Bay Area their home. After an exhilarating outing you will be ready to return to your cozy retreat in the hills.

Our latest attraction, just a few miles from the ranch, is the "super bloom". Fields of yellow mustard plants as bright as the sun are attracting people from all over.

Spend a day in Napa or Sonoma if wine tasting is on your list of destinations when visiting the Bay Area. Or make a day visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the galleries of Carmel. Travel about an hour and a half to the South along Highway 1, one of the most beautiful stretches of the California Coast, stopping at beaches along the way.

Our three closest beaches within 10 minutes to the ranch are: San Gregorio, Cowell-Purisima and Martin's Beach.

It's time to enjoy life again......

Sisters’ getaway
When previous plans fell through, I found this VRBO available at the last minute. Steve’s directions were clear and easy to follow and checking in was easy. We found our short stay on the property to be an unforgettable experience, far more enjoyable than any hotel/motel. I particularly enjoyed an early morning walk around the grounds and a visit with the horses. The location is close to beaches, great restaurants, and quaint shopping and the weather in August was great. The bunkhouse was supplied with the basics and Giovanni, the property manager, took care of special requests quickly. Be aware that the road in IS as steep, narrow, and windy as others have commented. I wouldn’t want to drive it in the dark. It was easier, and slightly less scary after the first time.

Beautiful rural retreat
Property owner, Steve, takes great pride in his property and it shows. The grounds are beautiful and well-kept, and the Bunkhouse was simple and charming. The views from the property are absolutely gorgeous, and it was a short drive to the beaches and restaurants. My pups especially loved the fenced dog run, and I loved hanging out a bit with their resident horses. I loved my stay and am already planning my next stay here. Many thanks to Steve for being a great host.
