Women travellers now have much more flexibility to travel the world and venture to new locales than ever before. Many destinations are offering female-friendly activities and attractions that are ideal for those taking trips with just the girls. In India, tourism officials hve been working on some initiatives to entice more female travellers to check out the sights and indulge in some entertainment abroad. Aussie women and other female tourists have been flocking to India for shopping, cultural attractions and more, which is contributing to the country's growing economy and strong presence in the tourism industry.

Shopping is one of the main focuses for Indian tourism officials, especially in larger cities. In 2001, roughly 25 per cent of travellers going to India were women, which has grown significantly to more than 40 percent in 2010. Malls and shopping centres are catering to this budding market by providing special boutiques and services just for females, devoting entire floors to women travellers and residents.

This is also the case for some hotels and resorts, which now offer products and benefits just for this specific demographic of tourists.

"These products are in the nascent stage,” said Suraj Nair, vice president of strategy and planning for the company Thomas Cook India, as quoted by Travel Biz Monitor. "This segment is going to catch up, but it won’t go up immediately. In the next five-year window, it would become an attractive area."

There are many other destinations for women to visit besides India that are great selections for groups of female friends and solo travellers. According to MSN Travel, Aussie tourists may have a blast taking flights to Las Vegas and enjoying a getaway in this vibrant city. Not only will groups of women have fun seeing shows and dancing at nightclubs, solo females will be able to mingle with other single guests on business.

Thailand is another female-friendly location chosen by many Aussie travellers who want to have a thrilling holiday abroad. Buddhist traditions, which is practised throughout the country, teach equality for both sexes, so most locales are hospitable to women and provide exciting activities for them to experience. Many travellers choose to book spa packages and vacations, taking advantage of the exotic treatments offered at affordable rates.

Aussie women have a wealth of opportunities when taking holidays abroad, whether venturing for short breaks or more lavish luxury travel excursions, where the options can be explored and reserved online.
