Ski season is in full swing throughout the snowy country of Canada, so Aussie travellers who enjoy this wintry activity may wish to consider a holiday to this part of the world. There are seemingly countless ski slopes and resorts to choose from that are indulged by many travellers and locals every year. Several of these establishments announced great snowfall recently that is enhancing the ski experience even more. Although most slopes are equipped with man-made snow making machines, the natural powder still draws the most crowds.
For instance, the Fernie Alpine and Kicking Horse Mountain Resorts, both in British Columbia, say that over the holiday season they accumulated significant snowfall in the region. This has been setting the stage for the some of the best slopes around, encouraging travellers and residents to come with their skis and snowboards to some thrilling winter sport activities.
In the past, Fernie has been voted as one of the top five ski resorts in North America, which is due to its large amount of natural snow that falls on the Canadian Rockies. Kicking Horse Mountain is also in this range and provides guests with a wide array of trails and comfortable slope-side accommodations.
Not only is new snow adding to the influx of travellers to Canada during the prime ski season, but some resorts are enticing guests by developing new lifts and features at their facilities. According to Ifyouski.com, at the Marmot Basin, officials have officially opened several new chairs and quads for skiers, which are a part of the country's largest ski resort upgrades this season.
"Marmot Basin’s new shareholder group has spent $25million on operational ski area improvements since 2003, including the addition of state-of-the-art snow making, a new terrain park, new guest services and rental shop, numerous renovations throughout chalets, and the Kokanee Glacier Sundeck," Dave Gibson, chief executive officer and president of Marmot Basin, said in a statement.
One of the biggest changes to happen at this ski resort is the upgrade of its most popular lift, the Paradise. New construction has made the lift twice as fast and more than 70 per cent longer that its original design. Up to four people can ride each chair at a time and the improved facilities can now take skiers of all skill levels to various trails that start at the summit.
Another great place to visit in Canada for its skiing and winter activities is Montreal. IBT Traveler reports that this metropolis has a unique European style of a North American city and offers tourists the opportunity to indulge in some great entertainment options or an array of outdoor sports all within the bustling urban centre.
There are several options for skiing in and near Montreal that Aussies can experience this season. Those wanting to learn how to ski for the first time or pick up some new skills can visit Mont Olympia, which has an array of beginner slopes and lifts. Travellers who rather journey to a large and popular ski area can check out Mont Tremblant Resort. Located a couple of hours outside of Montreal, this large ski locale has 600 acres of property to be explored that can be reached on 14 separate lifts.
There are plenty of small slopes, hills and scenic parks inside Montreal as well where travellers can cross-country ski, go snow tubing or try ice skating at an indoor or outdoor rink. No matter what kind of snowy holiday Aussies prefer, they are sure to find what they are looking for in a trip to Canada.
