Aussies who are looking for a unique place to visit on their upcoming holiday this winter could consider a trip to Wales. Recently, the UK tourism board has been endorsing the country as a fantastic place for tourists, boasting historical attractions and vibrant cities that offer a wealth of entertainment options. Not only are officials promoting the area, but several celebrities are also support travel to the UK by voicing their positive options on all that Wales has to offer.

The marketing initative to put Wales on the map as a premiere holiday location is being managed by the VisitBritain organisation. They have been getting movie stars from across the globe to share their stories about their fond memories of Wales when they have visited in the past. British and international celebrities alike are taking part in the project through various events and advertising campaigns.

One of the newest festivals that will be occurring in Cardiff, Wales' capital city this year is the Doctor Who Convention next March, which will celebrate the massively popular BBC series that has been on-air for decades. Participating in this conference will be actor Matt Smith, who plays the title character on the show. He says he loves Wales and enjoys its many offerings, such as the exciting rugby matches that are played in Cardiff at the Millennium Stadium.

"Doctor Who is one of the BBC’s most watched shows around the world, so having Matt on board is a perfect fit for our ambitions to increase international visits to the UK," Laurence Bresh, marketing director for VisitBritain, said in a statement. "It is a great endorsement of all the wonderful experiences that can be found by visitors if they go to Wales."

Actor Luke Evans is also singing the praises of Wales and the time he has spent in the area on vacation. The successful film star has appeared in movies like Robin Hood and The Immortals in the past, establishing himself as a skilled actor in the industry. Evans is currently in New Zealand filming The Hobbit, but he has spent significant time in Wales and has agreed to help promote the country as a tourism hotspot.

"From the big mountains in the north, to the valleys in the south, all through my childhood and teenage years my family would always holiday in Wales," Evans said in a statement. "We’d travel the fabulous Ceredigion Coast to places like Aberystwyth, or go caravanning in the medieval walled town of Tenby in Pembrokeshire. We’ve got some beautiful coastline here in Wales, it’s absolutely breath taking."

Other big names in film, fashion and more are also expressing their fun holiday and work experiences in Wales, including Twiggy, Judy Dench and Jamie Oliver. Not only are these big names in the celebrity world jumping on board for helping Wales with a new image, VisitBritain is investing millions in the project that will go towards advertising in newspapers, travel magazines and in cinemas. Many of these launches will coincide as well with the influx of visitors next summer to London for the 2012 Olympic games that will boost travel to the area considerably. The effort is said to be the largest tourism campaign the UK has ever initiated in its history.

Aussies who have had interest in visiting the UK, especially Wales, can learn about this incredible country though the information and tips offered by these celebrities, which can offer great advice for a future adventure travel trip abroad.
