Travelers looking for a summer vacation in the United States should consider a trip to Montrose, Colorado, thanks to American Eagle's new service from Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, starting June 9th.
"The Montrose/Telluride region offers many terrific outdoor recreational opportunities, including the Black Canyon National Park as well as some of the best music and arts festivals in the country," said Scott Stewart, the Executive Director of the Telluride Montrose Regional Air Organization.
Aussie travelers can fly to America and connect on a flight to Montrose from Dallas, which is an hour-long journey. Montrose, however, is a world away from the cosmopolitan area in Texas.
In this Colorado city of little more than 16,000 locals, the Rocky Mountains loom far in the distance to the east and rolling fields stretch out to the west. It is a relatively quiet place, more known for its active pursuits than its cultural attractions (there's a museum about the town's pioneer days).
The Black Canyon, carved by the Gunnison River, was named a national park in 1999, when President Bill Clinton called the site a "true natural treasure" adding that "Its nearly vertical walls, rising a half-mile high, harbor one of the most spectacular stretches of wild river in America."
