Travelers on flights to Christchurch may find that the cost of flying around New Zealand is getting cheaper, as the country's airlines are currently in a price war, according to Stuff.co.nz.
Although Pacific Blue is leaving the domestic air market in October, it is believed that Air New Zealand and Jetstar will continue to battle over the passengers flying in the country, Air New Zealand chief executive Rob Fyfe told the news source.
Fyfe also said that the two remaining airlines would fight to fill the void left by Pacific Blue's departure. In such a scenario, travelers win, according to Fyfe.
"Consumers will benefit from a very competitive domestic environment despite the departure of Pacific Blue," he told the news source.
Both airlines plan to add aircraft within the coming year, increasing flight capacity.
"We have significant growth plans for our domestic jet operation with capacity increasing by 8 percent progressively from September, the equivalent of one additional Boeing 737 aircraft," Fyfe told the New Zealand Herald.
