Visiting art museums while on holiday does not have to be a boring and stuffy experience. Aussies can explore an array of fun and engaging activities around the globe that center on admiring genius works of art. Many of these establishments offer a look into the minds of masterful individuals from both the past and modern times. Travelers of all ages can enjoy excursions to museums for a cultural adventure travel trip. Reuters reports on the highlights from some of the world's most cultured metropolises.

A great aspect of visiting Washington, D.C. in the United States is that most of the city's museums are free and open to the public. The best one for art may be the National Gallery, which has some awe-inspiring sculptures and paintings. Some of the most interesting works on display have been done by modern artists, including Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock.

Also in the U.S, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City has a reputation for being an incredible artistic attraction, and one of the biggest art complexes of its kind in the world. This building is sure to have something for everyone amongst its 2 million pieces of art.

The Prado in Madrid, Spain, is huge and allows for travelers to spend hours viewing the awe-inspiring work that sprawls out over six floors. Arguably, the best displays are by local and historical artists, such as Velasquez, El Greco and Goya.

Some museums in Spain may be more difficult to find due to their small size and sometimes remote locations. According to The Telegraph, the country is full of these tiny treasures, waiting to be explored by curious travelers.

There is a wonderful exhibit of Spanish photography at the Centro Cultural Bancaja in Valencia. Admission is free and the facility is open to the public for guests to admire history in pictures from the late 1800s through the 1930s.

The Carmen Thyssen Museum in the center of Malaga is not as easily missed, for it resides inside a stunning 16th century palace that may be easily found after booking a Malaga car hire. Displays include paintings by Picasso, Monet and Matisse.

On the other side of the world, the city of Tokyo, Japan, boasts some incredible museums that showcase local displays of art, as well as some eclectic collections of international talent. According to Frommer's, the Mori Art Museum focuses its efforts on contemporary African and Asian artworks. Guests must take an elevator to the 53rd floor of the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower to view these exhibits.

At the Toko-an tea room, Aussies can enjoy a different type of art form that is revered throughout the country, the tea ceremony. Guests may attend demonstrations of pourings and savor traditional tea and sweets for a small fee.

Some Aussies may consider the advancement of modern technology to be an art form in itself. This can be experienced at the Panasonic Center, which has displays of the biggest plasma TV in the world, alongside exhibits of how tech gadgets are assisting with eldercare and education.

Regardless of where a traveler roams, it is a safe bet that they are bound to discover a museum or two that can enlighten and inspire them on a fun holiday trip. Travelers who wish to find the best and most unique attractions can simply brave a conversation with a local on the street, or heed advice from the local tourism board for some great tips on where to explore the best art.
