Online travel provider Expedia has developed a promotion based upon destinations voted on by the company's fans on the social-networking site, Facebook.
Expedia launched its 2010 Summer Sale and is offering up to 40 percent discounts at more than 7,400 hotels worldwide, including some destinations that were voted on by Facebook users who are fans of the company.
Tim MacDonald, senior vice president and general manager of Expedia, explained the company's choice to use a modern approach to help develop its sale.
"Our Summer Sale promotion is intended to give travelers a strong financial incentive to book the trip they desire – the one they may have been waiting to take for years now. And this year we decided to leverage Facebook to let travelers pick the destinations they most desire and to structure the Summer Sale promotion around those destinations," he said.
On the social network, Expedia posed the question, "Where do you most want to go this summer?" and consequently, the sale features hotel deals in destinations that received the most votes.
The top three in the major city category were Paris, New York and Las Vegas, and the top international destinations were Rome, Cancun and London. The Summer Sale isn't limited to these cities but it's hard to pass up a holiday in Rome if one gets a good deal.
