It is no secret that Australians love to stay in shape. From short breaks to adventure travel excursions, Aussies are always on the lookout for ways to combine their passion for healthy living with exciting travel destinations. Travellers thinking about their next getaway may want to consider heading to Brazil this winter.
A feast of fitness
The city of Rio de Janeiro is a healthy traveller's paradise in June. One event that fitness enthusiasts will not want to miss is the Rio Sports Show, one of the largest exhibitions dedicated to amateur sports and athletics in South America.
Attendees can learn new techniques to stay in shape at one of the many workshops and demonstrations that will be held at the event. Personal trainers will be showing guests how to make the most of their workouts, demonstrating how yoga and pilates can help people relax, offering advice on how to maximise the health benefits of swimming, running, and much more.
In addition to the practical demonstrations, visitors will be able to browse dozens of exhibitors who will be setting up shop during the show. Sporting goods manufacturers from around the world will showcase their latest products, fitness gear and accessories, offering attendees the chance to get their hands on the latest exercise equipment and athletic apparel.
Visitors can push themselves to the limit in Rio
The following month, race fever descends on the athletic community of Rio during the city's annual marathon. Held on July 8, the race is one of the largest sporting events in the country, with thousands of runners participating. If Aussies fancy testing their limits during their adventure travel trip, the entrance fee is around $38 AUD.
As well as being one of the biggest sporting events in Brazil, the Rio Marathon is also one of the most scenic. Beginning in São Conrado, the route travels along the city's picturesque coastline, overshadowed by Rio's iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer. The event continues through Leblon before culminating with a race to the finish in Flamengo.
However Aussie travellers choose to spend their time in Rio, there is something for everyone in this unique city. For tourists who like to stay fit, a trip to Brazil this winter could be just the ticket.
