Skip the city for the day and visit the world's most fascinating neighborhoods - Sydney Travel News

Many travelers enjoy being right in the center of the city they visit, where many believe all the action takes places on an exciting adventure travel trip. However, Aussies who would like to experience the local flavor of various locations throughout the globe can explore some of the neighboring districts that surround these big cities. Travel and Leisure reports on a few of these great places that lie outside the main metropolis.

Portugal's capital city of Lisbon hosts an eclectic array of striking historical attractions and entertainment options, but Aussies who venture to the nearby district of Santos may find a different atmosphere all together. Many artists and designers have chosen to reside in this locale, which provides tourists opportunities for unique shopping excursions, where they may find wonderful perfumes or contemporary jewelry.

Les Abbesses, which is outside Paris, boasts famous past residents and admirers, such as Picasso and Raoul Dufy. Nowadays, the pretty cobblestone streets have retained their authenticity, so travelers can get a true feel of what old-world France may have felt like. Travelers can lunch at one of the charming bistros or stroll through the local galleries that have personality and style, which may not always be found at big city museums.

The United States is full of fascinating cities with even more interesting neighborhoods nearby. Nob Hill in California is one of those places that Aussies can reach by booking a San Francisco car hire and journeying only a short distance to this locale, reports The San Francisco Chronicle. The borough boasts a Chinatown full of beautiful Asian architecture, as well as several funky bars and clubs. Although this district is technically within city limits, it still retains an independent environment from other areas with its nod to history, culture and the arts.

Back in Australia, travelers who are planning their Sydney holiday packages should include trips to the beautiful neighboring boroughs that envelop the city. Packed Up reports that those who want to hit the beach should try the Maroubra or Bondi regions outside Sydney for incredible surf and sunny skies.

Aussies can book a Sydney car hire and head west to the suburbs of Hawkesbury, which also have beaches that are more secluded and relaxing. The towns themselves are great places to hunt for seasonal produce and tasty, local fruit.
