Aussie kids found to be antsy on road trips

A new study has found that Aussie children are the toughest to entertain while taking holiday road trips. The GPS navigational company TomTom recently interviewed parents from all over the world, asking them about the habits of their little ones when they took vacations by car and how long it took them to get antsy. Among kids between the ages of two and eight, Australian tykes were most likely to start complaining or become grumpy while stuck in the car with older siblings and parents.

Aussie children take an average of 23 minutes to get bored with the ride. Although many of the other top countries are within only a few minutes of each other, Australians are still ranked above the rest, which include Italy, the U.K., Spain and the Netherlands.

Ways to keep little ones entertained on the road

Families who want to book Sydney holiday packages or try reserving a Brisbane care hire for a future road trip will have to ensure the children have plenty of things to keep them entertained on the expedition. While electronics like portable video games and smartphones can be useful, more traditional games and activities can be just as effective, especially among the younger crowd.

A standard deck of cards is always useful and can be something everyone in the car can use together. Printing out a list of rules to various games ahead of time will allow kids to teach each other some new ways to use the cards.

Notebooks and plenty of drawing materials on hand can provide young children with the tools to create friendly contests, such as tic-tac-toe, hangman and picture guessing games. Spiral-bound scrap pages are best to minimise mess in the backseat.

Once Aussie travellers have gathered the games, toys and other items that will keep their kids happy on the upcoming road trip, then they can decide where they would like to go. Down Under is ideal for coastal cruises and journeys to the Outback by car hire and area fun and affordable way to explore the country. MSN Travel Australia suggests a tour from Sydney to the Northern Territory, which passes by locales such as the city of Brisbane, the Gold Coast, national parks and Darwin.
