The construction of the Cathedral began in 1386, which coincided with Gian Galeazzo Visconti coming into power. The site where the Cathedral is currently situated was previously occupied by the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio. During the construction period of five centuries, numerous international architects worked at the Duomo of Milan. It is the most important example of Gothic architecture in Italy.
