Overview

This will be a beautiful and safe bike ride to see the massive and ancient “El Tule” tree, which is famous for being the widest tree in the world.

The road we'll take is mainly used by locals so you'll get to see more about authentic Oaxaca and the outskirts of the city.

El Tule tree is located inside a gated churchyard in the picturesque town of Santa Maria del Tule. It is the widest tree in the world. It's 40 metres in height, 58 metres in circumference, and about 2,000 years old.

The Baroque-style church is called Templo de Santa María de la Asunción and dates from the 18th century.

Activity itinerary

Oaxaca

We'll meet in city centre Oaxaca. Then, once we are geared up with helmets and our bikes, we´ll begin our journey to El Arbol del Tule (45 min. bicycle ride from city centre approx. [10 km or 6 miles one way]). We'll ride on a nice bike lane covered with tree shades for the most part. It's mostly flat. During our ride, you'll get to see the outskirts of the city, beautiful hills, and a few crop fields.

Once we arrive to Santa Maria del Tule, we'll walk around town and go to see El Tule tree, the beautiful lush gardens and learn about the history of the town.

Then, we'll go to the handicrafts market and the food market where we'll spend some time checking out the market shops, going to the bathroom, and getting something to eat and drink.
Oaxaca

Finally, we'll start our ride back to Oaxaca. Other things to note: Do not forget your backpack to carry your belongings. Food is not included.
