New Hotel Vieux Port

Not impressed

American travelers will not receive common amenities. The rooms were very warm and air conditioning less than desirable. Request for ice was denied, not available. Electrical converter not available. Staff was quick to deny requests or help.

Not great

Hotel was old, dark. Our room was small but clean. One couple traveling with us got a large, beautiful room. Another couple had to change rooms 3 times because of non-functioning plumbing.

The breakfast IS NOT free!

Nice hotel with a very good location right near the harbor. Also, on weekends, the local merchants set up booths right in front of the hotel. Beware this, however: THE BREAKFAST IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE. When we checked in, the front desk stated... breakfast is served from so and so hours... giving the impression its free. The NEVER mentioned there was a charge for it. Also, they do not have prices mentioned anywhere except on the hotel board with 4 letters that no one would recognize as breakfast at 11 euro (even frenchman). Really, really sneaky. They know exactly what they’re doing and we ran into someone there who thought also that the breakfast was free. Other than that, nice hotel. Also, the elevator only goes up 4 or 5 floors, so request one of those floors.

First time in Marseille

The location, the reception staff, cleanliness, the room were all very good. the buffet breakfast was also good value. Internet was available too. Very close to a Metro station.

Nice, tight, great location

Like in many Euoropean hotels there is no lobby per se, just the staircase and the elevator, with a small check-in desk near entry. There is a nice large breakfast room on the first floor where they also provide 24hrs wireless internet. The room was large and great overall, the only thing to be improved is the carpet needing some steam cleaning. Everything spotless otherwise. Very friendly and helpful personnel.

Very good hotel overall, marred by a few minor details

Very good hotel overall, marred by a few complaints. The hotel was easy to find, about 10-15 minute walk from the main train station. The hotel is in the "Old Port" so there are many touristy activities (including boat rides), cafes, restaurants close by. Room 101 has a good-sized balcony (only the first floor has balconies) giving a great view over the port -- but BE WARNED the balcony has a few small iron rods sticking out of the ground right at the doorway, so unfortunately it would be easy to hurt oneself! The room was big and comfortable, the bed was comfortable but the bathroom opens right onto the bed so the lights could be disturbing to your sleeping partner at night. A Nespresso coffee machine is standard but the capsules are €2 each so bring your own! Gallery Lafayette and a shopping centre are very close by, as well as main shopping streets. We would stay here again!

Heart of Marseille, convenient and comfortable.

Situated at the (busy) heart of Marseille, 2 minute walk from Metro and the harbor, 10 minutes from train station. Not especially well sign-posted though (so tricky to find without taxi-driver’s help!). Receptionists spoke good English and were always helpful. Room was spacious, showing some scars from recent renovations, but decor and furniture were tasteful and comfortable (bed came with plenty of pillows!). Bathroom of high quality, though water was slow to get hot. Fast, reliable WiFi in room, but not free. Breakfast buffet available in very pleasant surroundings, but also not free. Easy to recommend hotel for convenience and above-average comfort.

Pretty good value but don’t leave your valuables.

This hotel was booked for a three day stay in Marseille. We selected it because of location and favourable reviews. Have to say the location is very convenient and the comfort of hotel rooms represent good value. The rooms have good standard features and cleanliness is of a good standard. The rooms have electronic locks that feature an "alarm" to tell you the door is NOT locked. However we suffered a theft from a locked room so can recommend the hotel but that valuables of any sort should not be left in the "locked" room.

Even though we had nearly no view of the beautiful town, we had safe, clean and nice accommodations. If you have mobility issues, ask for something on floors 1-4. You must climb stairs to get to the fifth floor.

Good unpretentious hotel for the budget minded.

Location is perfectly safe. It’s only few steps to the metro station, Rue Canabriere and Vieux Port area where there are many shops and restaurants, and where you can take the Petite Train for sightseeing. Tourist Office and money changer are nearby. Room, elevator and reception area are small but more than adequate. Front desk ladies were cheerful, very nice and hepful. We’ll stay at this hotel again. Highly recommended for frugal travellers!!

Very happy with our stay

The hotel... was as most previous reviews mentioned and there were no surprises. The hardest thing was finding the place with Gps in our hire care as the address does not take you to the small street where you can park the car while unloading your luggage. True to their word the Supermarket carpark across the street was a good place to park the car when not in use. The staff were friendly and I will certainly stay here again should I return to Marseille.

The hotel was nice, clean. However, there was no emergency exit.

Great Location, Quiet & Comfortable

This hotel is at a great location. You see it right as you come out of the metro, yet for its location is was a quiet room. The breakfast was expensive, but it was also very good. The staff spoke English. The room was comfortable. It was weird to have to check in and out a physical key (no electronic keys) but I guess that is common in other countries.

Nice location, nice rooms

This location was convenient to the harbor and restaurants and very, very convenient to the metro (70 feet). The issues with the hotel were that is was a city center hotel and did not have very good sound insulation from the outside noise. Sirens were very, very common. I would also opt against the onsite breakfast. It was fairly meager, and there are so many wonderful restaurants within walking distance. Hotel staff was fluent in English which is nice as my French isn’t passable. I would stay there again if I found myself in Marseilles.

Great Hotel. Recently renewed. Room was rather big for France. Very helpful staff. Perfect location, near historical sites, old port, night life and subway station.

Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Go for the formulas when you go out for dinner. You get a set menu for a great price.

Great Hotel

My sister and I stayed at the New Hotel Vieux Port, Marseille and were delighted with the room we were given. It was very spacious, the beds were extremely comfortable and the bathroom was squeaky clean. Our hair drier did not work and after phoning reception it was fixed very promptly. I had requested twin beds with a view of the port if possible and that is just what we got. Only small down side was we could not use our phone card from our room. Overall this is a great hotel, staff very good and can only recommend it to fellow travellers.

Traveller's tip on dining

We found a very good place to eat was La Brasserie on the port. Great food, especially the steak,and the boullibaise nice wine good ambiance and great service from the waiting staff, especially Johnny. Their creme brulee was delectable. We found that once you find a good eating place stick to it, and try a variety of meals.

Across the street forn the port

Nice hotel in the square where the action is. The breakfast is worth the money. Large rooms with large bathrooms.

Spacious, clean and fine

I stayed "Exotic" room. It is spacious, clean and fine. Even though I could not see View Port from my room, it is OK.

So central

This is a pretty nice hotel in a perfect central spot, though our room was right near the church bell...helped us know what time it was I suppose! Super central spot, pretty safe, lots of restaurants to pick from, room small but clean, bathroom larger than average european. Cute city, very enjoyable.
