When to visit Ko Samui

When to go to Ko Samui?
Koh Samui's hot season is the best and most popular time to visit - February to July. As the rains pick up from July to October, expect to occasionally get wet. Large storms can pop up between October to January. Ko Samui's resort and hotel operators have worked to turn the island into a more up-market destination, arguably reducing the throngs of backpackers who once predominated.

Must-see sights

The Big Buddha: Everybody visits the Big Buddha at Wat Phra Yai ("Big Buddha Temple"). Those flying in will likely see it from the plane.
The Mummified Monk: Preserved in situ by locals who believe he made his way to nirvana more than 20 years ago, leaving his earthly body behind as he meditated at Suan Dharmapala.
Hin Ta, Hin Ya: Legend has it these two rock formations are all that remained of an amorous fishing couple whose boat was dashed to pieces on the rocks.
Get pampered: The Island is famous for an extensive offering of spa treatments. The prices are varied from hundreds to thousands. Grab a detailed spa guide book from the airport.
Full moon party: Take a short ferry ride to Phan nga Island where "The full moon party" occurs every month.

Insider Tips

Be sure to take your swimsuit on trips and tours anywhere on or around the island: there is invariably a good beach or swimming hole. If the weather is just too hot to handle, visit a waterfall and jump in. Renting a small motorbike is a popular way to get around the island.
