A luxury stay in this city is one you won't forget: Hong Kong hoteliers know exactly how to pamper their first-class guests, and compete with one another to offer the finest amenities. Whether you choose the mainland (Kowloon) or Hong Kong Island, and whether your taste inclines to ultra-modern or time-honoured, you'll have no trouble finding a top quality establishment with every possible modern convenience, traditional Asian hospitality and - inevitably - stunning views. Choose Kowloon for shopping, Tsim Sha Tsui for night life, and Hong Kong Island for some of the truly great sights. Shop at the Landmark, Pacific Place or IFC Mall, pamper yourself at a city spa; dine at the Peninsula's Felix (or simply enjoy a drink at its unique bar); eat al fresco at The Peak or enjoy the best of Chinese cuisine at the legendary Yung Kee; Hong Kong is all about indulgence.

It's one of the world's most celebrated cities, and a visit with your family offers not just fun, but some exceptional opportunities - educational and exciting. There's Hong Kong Disneyland of course, but that's just for starters, so be sure to allow time for the other attractions too. See pandas and a host of other creatures at Ocean Park; visit Snoopy's World, the fabulous Science and Space museums in Tsim Sha Tsui, and ride a vintage tram on Hong Kong Island (upper deck, naturally.). Bus 15 C from Pier 6 is another great way to show them the sights - it's an open-topped double-decker. Ride a cable car over the harbour to Ngong Ping, and travel by tram to the Peak for views your kids will remember forever. If it's raining and you're faced with excess energy, take them to Jumpin Gym USA, where they'll have plenty of scope to let off steam. Many Hong Kong restaurants offer children's menus, and some of the big shopping malls have special facilities and school holiday programmes for kids. Finally, don't forget to cross the harbour on the famous Star Ferry. Magic.

No doubt you already appreciate just how fantastic Hong Kong is for shopping, but a little help never goes amiss - especially when it comes to specific types of spending. In fact, there are so many shopping opportunities here, from themed streets to mega-malls - that it's easy to become overwhelmed and lose your focus. So, where do you begin? Here are a few hints: For electronic goods, try Nathan Road, Sai Yeung Choi Street South in Mong Kok, or the chain stores ‘Broadway' and ‘Fortress'. We're speaking generally, of course, you'll find electronic consumer goods all over the city. For computer items only, go to specialist malls like Star Computer City or Computer Mall. For retail heaven and a selection of just about everything you can think of, head to the mega-malls: Festival Walk, Times Square, huge Harbour City, Citiplaza. New World Centre is a good mall for jewellery and watches; Wonderful Worlds of Whampoa has fashion and a big range of food outlets. For designer fashion, shop in Central district - The Landmark is a mall of big-name labels. Yue Hwa shops are excellent for Chinese items, including clothes, gifts and traditional crafts. For sportswear, where else but Sportswear Street on Hong Kong Island? And remember - these hints are just the tip of an immense retail iceberg.
