When to go to Ho Chi Minh?
This is a city with a humid, tropical climate, and the ideal time for a visit is during the "dry" season - any time between December and April. Rainfall is down, temperatures are a little cooler, and getting around outdoors is more comfortable.

Ho Chi Minh Flight times
From Sydney : around 8.5 hours.
From Melbourne : around 8 hours.
FIRST-TIME TOURIST: VISIT REUNIFICATION PALACE AND THE WAR REMNANTS MUSEUM FOR TWO GLIMPSES INTO THE DAYS OF THE VIETNAM WAR - SOME OF THE SIGHTS AT THE MUSEUM ARE NOT PRETTY. BY CONTRAST, ADMIRE THE REMAINING EXAMPLES OF FRENCH COLONIAL ARCHITECTURE IN DISTRICT 1; STROLL DOWN DONG KHOI, ONCE SAIGON'S MOST FAMOUS STREET, AND EXPERIENCE THE BUSTLE AND BARTER OF BEN THANH MARKET. VISIT BUSY CHOLON (CHINATOWN) WITH ITS PAGODAS AND BINH TAY MARKET.
City views: Ho Chi Minh City is big and flat; try one of the high-rise hotel bars; or for views of the Saigon River, the park across from the Renaissance Hotel.
Culture vulture: Seek out old Saigon in the broad avenues and French colonial buildings (Kong Khoi Street is a good place to start); visit French-built Notre Dame Cathedral with its stained glass windows from Chartres and send a postcard from the beautiful old Post Office next door. Don’t miss City Hall, but don’t expect to see inside. If possible, catch a performance at the historic Municipal Theatre, and take a trip to Cu Chi Tunnels for another insight into the Vietnam War.
Be extremely cautious crossing the road. Traffic is horrendous; mopeds and motorbikes are everywhere and unpredictable. Go very carefully; try to appear confident and don’t try to dodge. Be aware that it’s common for motorbikes to be driven along footpaths in busy areas. Don’t be confused if you hear Vietnamese talking about Saigon. It’s the name many residents still give to the old heart of the city (District 1). Avoid wearing shorts when you’re not by the beach. The Continental Hotel is an icon of old Saigon: setting of Graham Greene’s The Quiet American and gathering place of war correspondents in the 1960s and ’70s, as were the Caravelle and Majestic. Don’t drink the city’s water: stick to bottled for everything, including cleaning your teeth. Good, free maps of the city are available at the SASCO Tourist and Visitor Travel Information Centre in the arrivals hall at Tan Son Nhat International Airport. Begin at least one day the way the locals do: with a bowl of Pho. Sad but essential: be on the lookout for bag snatchers in the busier areas.
