The very best of tropical beaches...

We don't need to tell you that Fiji's beaches are world-famous, and for good reason. But choosing which one to head for is never easy - and, although the final decision is yours, we can lend a hand. Just remember, we're speaking broadly, and it's an idea to do a little internet based research before making a final decision. You'll also need to choose between beach bures, luxury beach spas, beach cottages, beachfront hotels and motels...and more. Meanwhile, here's some food for thought: the Coral Coast has mile upon mile of white sand and blue, reef-protected sea for swimming; the Yasawa islands are famous for their gorgeous lagoons and long, sweeping stretches of silver sand; the beautiful beaches of the Mamanuca islands enjoy magnificent sunsets and are ideal for snorkelling. In the north, Tavenui doesn't boast quite so many beaches but more than makes up for this in charm - and you will certainly find somewhere idyllic to sun and swim. Or you could opt for unspoiled Kadavu or Vatulele in the southern group - we did warn you the decision wouldn't be easy.

All the luxury under the sun

The range of luxury accommodation in Fiji is quite simply superb; and you can take time out for an island cruise, an island-hopping helicopter trip, sailing on a chartered yacht, a private dive tour, or an unforgettable sunset dinner cruise. Tee off on a picture-perfect fairway at one of Fiji's outstanding golf courses, play tennis or simply laze in a beachside hammock and enjoy the absolute luxury of doing nothing at all for as long as you please. If that sounds like you, you might like to consider staying at one of Fiji's fabulous spa resorts; they're designed for absolute self-indulgence. You'll find luxury resorts on the main island of Viti Levu, and on many of the small, secluded islands of the outer groups, with accommodation that ranges from picturesque bures to five-star suites.

The Fijians love children, and family holidays here are bound to be happy ones. There's a generous selection of child-friendly accommodation (many resorts have special family-sized rooms or family bures on offer) and although some islands are more suited to romance, Castaway and Treasure; Mana, Malolo, Sonaisali and Plantation provide perfect tropical playgrounds for you and your kids. Child-minding and special kids' clubs are available at many of the resorts too, giving you a real chance for some relaxation. While you soak up the sun, your kids can enjoy a huge range of fun activities and sports - just make sure you pack their reef shoes. An island romance

Fiji's tropical sunsets, untouched beaches, tranquil lagoons and crystal clear waters could not be more conducive to romance, but with more than 300 islands in the group, it's inevitable that some will stand out from the crowd. We suggest that couples wanting time out together should avoid the busier resorts and head for places like the Mamanuca group or the Yasawas; try Tavenui (the "mystery island"), Tokoriki, Matangi in the northern group, tiny, jewel-like Toberua - or Beqa Lagoon near Pacific Harbour. Wherever your destination, be sure to book yourself a bure or bungalow by the water, and perhaps consider adding an evening cruise to the mix. There aren't many nicer places on Earth to spend some special time together.

Fiji is so close to Australia's east coast that jet-lag doesn't come into the equation. This makes it an ideal destination for well-deserved getaway; a short, sweet break in the tropical sun. There are countless islands to choose from, a great range of beachfront resorts, and you'll find excellent deals on accommodation all year round. Choose a luxury spa, a budget bure or somewhere in between, book your dates, pack your bags and get ready to unwind. If lazing about isn't your thing, you'll be surprised at how much you can cram into a few Fijian days: a sunset cruise, a taste of local culture, golf, horse riding, sailing, diving, snorkelling and, of course, swimming in the warm Pacific. Holidays at home are never quite the same as 'going away'; and we can't think of anywhere easier than fabulous Fiji.

Romantically-minded couples have been honeymooning in Fiji for decades, and anyone who's ever been there will tell you why. It's a destination that just goes on getting better for newlyweds, with its ever-increasing range of idyllic resorts, its sparkling blue seas, white sands, out-of-the-way islands and super-relaxed approach to life. The food is fantastic, the weather is year-round tropical and the surroundings are pure perfection for two people in love. And, because not every couple's idea of romance is the same, you can base your honeymoon stay around tropical luxury, simple relaxation, island cruising, party fun or sporting action; the options are all there. But we're fairly sure you'll want seclusion as well, so check out the quieter islands - maybe those in the Mamanucas or Yasawas. Wherever you choose, you can be sure of a very special time together because, from moonlit beach to sunlit atoll, the honeymoon experience in Fiji is hard to better.
