Must see sights
Canals: Canal trips allow visitors close-up views of orchid farms, flower and vegetable gardens, and the traditional Thai lifestyle.
Temples: So many to see, too little time? Top your list with Wat Pho, home to the reclining golden Buddha, and Wat Phra Kaeo–residing place of the meditative emerald Buddha.
Grand Palace: Marvel at the ornate architectural details of the balconies, entry gates, throne halls, and pavilions.
Insider tips
This populous city is renowned for its standstill traffic jams. For faster transport, take the sky train or the subway. For short journeys, hire a three-wheeled motorised Tuk-Tuk or a motorcycle taxi (and hang on!).
Bangkok has markets galore, but one of the best for variety and bargains is the weekend market adjacent to Chatuchak Park.
Avoid inconsiderate behaviour: Touching Thais on the head, pointing with the feet, and climbing onto the lap, knee, or any other part of a Buddha image.
