Chaat Café

Indian snacks -- chaat -- are the specialty at this no-frills establishment (part of a small chain) adorned with big, bright-colored paintings of Indian women. Thin, chewy naan accompanies curries -- fish, lamb, chicken, and veggie versions -- and is used for wraps, including one filled with tasty tandoori lamb, onions, and cilantro. Small, hollow bread puffs into which you spoon seasoned potatoes and chickpeas -- a dish called pani puri here -- and chicken and fish pakora (fritters) are also good choices. At lunchtime, order at the counter; come dinner, tableside service is usually in effect. Reservations not accepted.
