Absinthe Despite the restaurant's name, the long-banned cloudy green liqueur isn't served here. The plush banquettes and extensive wine list draw the city's social set, which dines on cold seafood platters, coq au vin, and rib-eye steak with red-wine-marrow butter, for example. Pot de crème (rich custard) is a memorable dessert. Burgundy walls and yards of wood recall a sophisticated French brasserie, but the menu shows American and Italian influences as well. The lunch menu includes a fine croque monsieur and croque madame (grilled ham-and-cheese sandwiches), and the late-night bar menu fuels neighborhood night owls.
