Campo de' Fiori This bustling square is home to a famed morning market, a must-see dose of local culture for any Roman holiday. Each morning, vendors fill temporary stalls with all manner of local produce, nuts, cheese, spices, flowers, and seafood; by early afternoon it's all gone, to resurface in the city's homes and restaurants at dinnertime. If you don't want to join the fray, step back and take a break at one of the many pleasant cafés that border the market. The view has certainly improved since the Middle Ages, when the square was the scene of public executions, including that of philosopher-monk Giordano Bruno (1548-1600). His statue still broods in the center of the square. |
