Rome's opera season runs from November or December to May, and performances are staged in the Teatro dell'Opera. Prices range from about EUR16 to EUR120 for regular performances; they can go much higher for an opening night or an appearance by an internationally acclaimed guest singer. Standards may not always measure up to those set by Milan's fabled La Scala, but, despite strikes and shortages of funds, most performances are respectable. In summer the Teatro dell'Opera stages performances in various outdoor venues, such as Piazza del Popolo.
