Pleasure Island

Many Disney clubs are at Pleasure Island, a 6-acre after-dark entertainment complex connected to the rest of Downtown Disney by footbridges. Despite its location on Disney property, the entertainment has real grit and life, even against the backdrop of the facility's gimmicky underlying concept: every night is New Year's Eve, complete with a nightly countdown to midnight and fireworks. In addition to eight clubs, you'll find a few restaurants and shops. A pay-one-price admission gets you into all the clubs and shows. Children accompanied by an adult are admitted to all clubs except BET SoundStage and Mannequins.

Adventurer's Club re-creates a private club of the 1930s. Much of the entertainment is found in looking at exotic accent pieces that clutter the walls; the rest is in watching actors lead sing-alongs and share tall tales from their adventures. BET SoundStage Club is backed by Black Entertainment Television and pays tribute to all genres of black music through videos and live performances. The blend has attracted legions of locals who proclaim this the funkiest nightspot in Central Florida (and perhaps also the loudest). The gifted comedians at the Comedy Warehouse perform various improv games, sing improvised songs, and create off-the-cuff sketches based largely on suggestions from the audience. At 8TRAX, groove to the recorded music of Donna Summer or the Village People while the disco balls spin. You'll either love or tolerate Mannequins' high-tech style, complete with Top 40 hits; a revolving dance floor; elaborate lighting; suggestive, over-the-top Disney dancers; and such special effects as bubbles and snow. Motion plays dance music from Zoot Suit Riot to the latest techno junk. The two-story warehouse look is stark, with the emphasis put on the dance floor and the club's twirling lights and thumping sound system. With a feeling reminiscent of a 1930s speakeasy, the Pleasure Island Jazz Company presents nightly performances by accomplished soloists or small combos. The tapas bar is well stocked; get assorted wines by the glass. The Rock & Roll Beach Club throbs with live rock music from the '60s to the '90s.
